Katie’s Rockin’ ‘Hulaween’!
October 24, 2002
KATIE COURIC got into the Hawaiian Halloween spirit Tuesday night at the New York Restoration Project’s (NYRP) annual “Hulaween” gala event, and ET was there!
Surrounded by traditional Hawaiian décor at the New York Marriott Marquis, the “Today” show host was joined by such celebrities as JOHN McENROE, CAROLINE RHEA, PHOEBE CATES and her husband KEVIN KLINE, and ROSIE O’DONNELL, all in the name of the Swindler Cove Boathouse on the Harlem River.
The Swindler Cove Boathouse is New York City’s first new rowing boathouse in close to a century, and the only one dedicated to serving local community youth. The boathouse will provide access to the Olympian sport of rowing through programs for underserved high school students.
At last night’s event, NYRP founder BETTE MIDLER announced a $2 million grant from the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation to complete construction on the boathouse. The Director of the Board of the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation, NORMAN L. PECK, also received the 2002 “Wind Beneath My Wings” Leadership Award.
The NYRP’s mission is to carry out Bette’s dream of a cleaner, more beautiful New York. The organization restores, develops, and revitalizes underserved parks, community gardens, and open space in New York City. It also provides ongoing maintenance and programs based on the belief that “every individual has the right to a beautiful neighborhood and the responsibility for contributing to its care.”
Tonight on ET, catch all the highlights of this star-studded event!
