Bette Midler fan nominates the sassy, trashy singer as America’s reasure ‘chest’

Editor — What a great article Joel Selvin wrote about “the Divine One, ” Bette Midler (“Pure showbiz,” Feb. 1). I have seen her in concert more than 40 times. She is ageless and a true entertainer. She has won Grammys, Emmys, Tonys and three Golden Globes. She still awaits the Oscar. She has written two best-selling books and cleans up New York City. If she wins a Grammy for the Rosemary Clooney CD, she has said she will donate it to the Clooney estate. Britney, Cher, Christina, Beyonce, Tina and Babs have that fame, and most should not. Bette gives her audience her all. It is nice to have her as America’s treasure “chest.” What more can I say, except that it would be nice to see her on Broadway in “Hello, Dolly!” or “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” with Robin Williams as her co-star. Or a remake of “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” with Cher.
