Name game
We like Bette Midler, for her singing and her support of parks. But where
does she get off dissing Robert Moses? Granted, New York’s master builder held
onto the levers of power too long and ran a freeway through one of Midler’s
favorite parks. But it was ungracious of her to ask The Foundation for Long Island State Parks to erase his name from its “Master Builder Award,” which it did before presenting it to her Friday. It’s like asking to have the Nobel Prize
renamed because Alfred Nobel invented dynamite.
