Bette’s Closet – Apr 27, 2007 to May 8, 2007
The Divine Miss M literally cleans out her closet to support her Rose Garden

To honor NYRP Founder Bette Midler on her 60th birthday-and NYRP’s 10th anniversary-the Trustees of the New York Restoration Project funded the restoration of a lovely rose garden in the South Bronx in Bette’s honor. The 1,500 sq. foot, wedgeshaped plot is located at Teller Avenue, between E. 164th and 165th Streets, near Yankee Stadium. Bette’s Rose Garden sits across the street from the Roberto Clemente Intermediate School and NYRP has consulted with the school to provide an outdoor “classroom” for students to study the environment, grow vegetables, and create a butterfly garden. Celebrated landscape architect Brian Sawyer provided the garden design for the space .

Bette has opened her closets and is donating fabulous clothing from her personal wardrobe in addition to one of a kind iconic costumes to create an endowment for the garden. This endowment would provide funding for future plant care, maintenance, and programming, and would help to ensure that the garden remains an oasis of green for this underserved community for generations to come. Fans of the Divine Miss M can even bid to win one of a kind selections as the perfect Mother’s Day gift for their loved ones!
