Oscar-nominee Bette Midler and director Mark Rydell will participate in an onstage discussion following the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 30th anniversary screening of The Rose, to be held at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on September 25.

The Rose follows singer Mary Rose Foster (Midler) through the highs and lows of her final tour. Midler earned her first Academy Award nomination for Actress in a Leading Role for her work in the movie. Frederic Forrest also received an Oscar nomination for Actor in a Supporting Role.

Midler made her Broadway debut as Tzeitel in the original Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof. Subsequently, she appeared on Broadway in concerts such as Bette! Divine Madness. In 1974, she was awarded a Special Tony Award in 1974 for, “adding luster to the Broadway season.”

  1. Mr. D

Are you going?—still debating spending the money on this or purchasing a smug ticket for Nov.

Difficult choice as I have never had the opportunity to meet Bette. From the stories posted, smug may be the WTG.

    Have a great day

    1. Yes, I’m going, but then again I’ve met with her about 4 times and am in relative touch. I don’t know if I’ll see her if I go. If you want to make sure you’ll absolutely will meet her Smug Mutha is the way to go….DTB

  2. Thanks Don-

Trying to see if I can do both; what an opportunity to hear the discussion about the film. I remember oh those many years ago seeing the movie 5 times in the first week it was out with my friends. Just wondering if you knew if there might be a special 30th anniv. dvd release?

Thanks as always, continued success with ur writing.

    Linda Oh!

    1. Thank you. I’ve heard nothing about a new DVD release of it although I wish. I must have seen that movie 100 times so I’m really excited to see it in a theatre again.

  3. I dont know where i will stay. I have to figure that out. I didnt get my plane ticket yet either 😛 But im super excited. It’s my favorite movie so this is such an honor. Cant wait to meet you and Jamie Lee 🙂

    1. I got my plane ticket and I just got the ticket to the movie….now I need a place to stay. I may stay at a hotel. My family is good friends with the head of Screen Gems and he might let me stay at his house, but I hate imposing on people….

  4. Hi!

I’ve ordered my ticket. $5.00 for The Rose on the big screen, in a state of the art theatre, an appearance and discussion of my all time favorite movie with Bette. That’s the best $5.00 I’ve spent in years. If anyone out there knows a great hotel in the area, please let me know.

    1. This is where I’m staying – it was the cheapest and closest I could find….
