Yoko Ono’s ever-changing and often conceptual Plastic Ono Band has never failed at packing the studio and stage with star-filled lineups. But the cast she’s assembled to play the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Gilman Opera House on Tuesday is just downright bizarre – even by Yoko standards.

Yoko Ono’s ever-changing and often conceptual Plastic Ono Band has never failed at packing the studio.
In addition to Ono (and her primary band, composed of son Sean Lennon, Yuka Honda and Cornelius), the show will feature collaborations with Eric Clapton, Paul Simon (and son Harper), Bette Midler, Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, Scissor Sisters, Martha Wainwright, Mark Ronson, Jim Keltner, Justin Bond, Haruomi Hosono and Klaus Voormann.

In the interests of further upping the thresholds of the sure-to-be circus-like atmosphere, we got conceptual, too, and compiled a potential set-list pulled from the catalogs of Ono, John Lennon, the listed guest performers and those of some additional guests we’d like to see added to the bill for oddity’s sake:

1. “I’m Alive”

2. Medley of “Why?” (with Yo La Tengo) and “Why Not?” (with John Cale and archival footage of John Cage)

3. “Waiting for the D Train” (with Eric Clapton, Jack White and Patti Smith)

4. Medley of John Lennon’s “Mother” (with Sean Lennon), “B.M.F.A” (with Martha Wainwright) and “Father and Son” (with Cat Stevens and Paul and Harper Simon)

5. “Oh My Love” (with Bette Midler, Justin Bond and Antony Hegarty) Click Here To Hear Original

(Justin Bond of “Kiki and Herb”)

6. “Yes, I’m a Witch” (with Courtney Love)

7. “Sisters, O Sisters” (with Le Tigre, the Scissor Sisters and Mavis Staples)

8. “Declare Independence” (with Björk, Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine and M.I.A.)

9. Medley of “Mulberry” (with Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon) and “Clint Eastwood” (with Gorillaz and Mark Ronson)

10. Mash-up of “Instant Karma!” and “Karma Police” (with Thom Yorke, the Roots and Ornette Coleman)

11. “Give Peace a Chance” (with the show’s entire lineup, all our fake guests, as well as Broken Social Scene, the Polyphonic Spree, Transiberian Orchestra, the University of Southern California Trojan Marching Band and a kazoo-armed audience)

  1. Hi Don hi y’all,

Just LOVE the lyric but the melody? I cannot imagine Bette like that, but she never stops to amaze or surprise me so. I just can’t wait!

    With Love

  2. Hey Mister D,

Just wondering if any other Betteheads will be going to the show on Tuesday… I’m going alone and wouldn’t mind meeting up with other fans…

    Thanks, Mike
