Why on Earth “My One True Friend” wasn’t a hit is a hard question to asnwer. Perhaps lack of promotion. I don’t remember how good the film did (by the way a marvelous movie). I remember Bette had just done “Isn’t She Great” and often spoke of how authentic Meryl Streep’s cancer performance was compared to hers. I, for one, have always loved “Isn’t She Great”. It’s a feature with a great cast and full of heart.
Yes, she was lip syncing on the second song. My Onr True Friend should have been a hit but was probably not worked at or promotef at radio stations enough. It’s a shame…it’s a gem of a song….
