“For the Boys“: Mark Rydell‘s 1991 film followed USO singer Dixie Leonard (played by Bette Midler) and her stage partner, Eddie Sparks (James Caan), through 30 years, three wars and rending personal tragedies. Now Aaron Thielen has adapted the screenplay by Marshall Brickman, Neil Jimenez and Lindy Laub for a new stage musical, featuring a score heavy on popular tunes such as “GI Jive,” “Come Rain or Come Shine,” and “What a Wonderful World.” Marc Robin’s world-premiere staging features Broadway vets Michele Ragusa and Timothy Gulan as Dixie and Eddie. Wednesday through Oct. 16 at Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire; $41-$49 at 847-634-0200 or marriotttheatre.com
