Midtown again is getting the Hollywood treatment.
The community is among the locations being used to shoot a new feature film starring Billy Crystal, Marisa Tomei and Bette Midler, among others.
Currently, production crews are constructing a skate park in the meadow of Piedmont Park.
One lane of 10th Street, between Charles Allen and Monroe drives, will be closed through Oct. 26 for set construction and filming, according to permits filed with the city of Atlanta.
According to Internet Movie Database, the film is about a grandfather who finds himself having to take care of three grandchildren, struggling between 21st century parenting and old school methods.
The movie, which will be directed by Andy Flickman, is expected to be released in 2012. The film has various working titles, including ‘Parental Guidance,’ ‘Call Me Artie’ and ‘Us & Them.’
Scenes also have been shot in Dunwoody since filming began this month.
There was a casting call for the film in late September/early October looking for extras, a stand-in for Billy Crystal, a Chinese noodle maker, young musicians, BMX riders, little league coaches/umpires, bartenders and more.
