Q: Isn’t it true that Bette Midler‘s marriage is in serious trouble because she’s so depressed about the lukewarm public reception to her “For the Boys” flick? – R.S.
A: Bette, who is 45, is married to 4 1 – y e a r – o ld M a r t in von Haselberg, a former financial counselor and commodities trader turned artist. They’ve been wed seven years, and have a 5-year-old daughter, Sophie Frederica Alohilani von Haselberg. Bette and husband admit they have their frequent spats, but the union seems on solid ground. Midler is talented enough to overcome box-office misfires, including “For the Boys.” It’s not as though the flick’s reception will turn her essentially sound marriage into one for the divorce-court books.
