BetteBack July 16, 1977: Bette Mider Offered Role In “Happy End”

Bette Midler has been offered a ton of money to take over the female lead in “Happy End,” the Kurt Weill revival currently on Broadway.

And her first major film will not be for Columbia Pictures, which was contracted for a year ago. Instead, she will star in the movie version of the musical “Seesaw,” which is also Michael Bennett‘s (“A chorus Line“) first directorial chore for Universal Pictures.
