“I WOULDN’T SAY I invented tack, but I definitely brought it to its present high popularity,” said Bette Midler. (But did you notice on the Academy Awards how refined and understated Bette was? Is this her private image?)
THE DIVINE One created a riot last week signing copies of her book, “A View from a Broad,” in New York’s B. Dalton. But Bette didn’t come East just to behave like an author.
She confided to pals that she is here to see her longtime boyfriend Peter Riegert, who opened Saturday in the Public Theater offering of Israel Horovitz‘ new play, “Sunday in the Rain.”
For a while there, this romance was on a bad skid, but now maybe it’s back on track.
