Q: Can you tell us what role Bette Midler will play in her next movie? – H.J., Phoenix, Ariz.
A: After playing a doomed Janis Joplin-type rock star in “The Rose” and herself in “The Divine Miss M,” Bette still apparently prefers to sing on screen. We hear she’ll star in a comedy-drama set in Las Vegas and appropriately titled “Jackpot.” The script by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Frank Gilroy has Bette as a gambler’s girlfriend who just happens to warble in cocktail lounges on the side.
