Mister D: I’ll be out of town for awhile without my computer, so I won’t be posting. My beautiful Aunt Sue, who helped raise me, has been taken off her feeding tubes. so it’s just a matter of days before she passes. She was a wonderful second mom to me.

Bette Midler seems to have found a home on the Disney lot where she recently made Touchstone’s “Down and Out in Beverly Hills,” is set to start “Ruthless People” next month and expects to film her Ina Bay Hutton bio-pic in late 1986.
“It’s the best thing that ever happened to me,” she says of the film about the leader of the all-girl band of the ’30s and ’40s.
“It’ll be a full-blown musical.”

BETTE MIDLER — Mud Will Be Flung Tonight – Atlantic 81291
— On this one, I will side with the do-no-wrong brigade.
Adults only, kids. Sorry. Bette, who has sold many records as a singer, turns comedienne here and the comedy is quite risque.
As a vocalist, she can belt ’em out with the best. As a comedienne, she can get gutter-low with the raunchiest of ’em!
Keep out of reach of children.

Q. We hear that a new movie is being planned on the life of Mae West. Who do you think is sexy enough to play her? — G.H.
A. Hollywood, sexually forthright these days, has plenty of actresses who can generate her on screen. But do they have that special off-hand humor of the late La West? That’s the question.
One famous director I know is seriously preparing Mae’s life story for the screen. He disclosed to me an interesting choice for the lead — none other than Bette Midler.

Midler draw laughs, tears
November 5, 1985
The most uproarious applause and most somber moment of a star-studded gala which raised Si.3 million to fight AIDS came during a comedy and musical routine by Bette Midler, who began her career singing before gay audiences.
Ms. Midler said Sunday she recently visited her former hangouts and found the “mood wasn’t quite the same. It’s like wartime.”
Performing before a predominately male audience of nearly 4,000 at the Metropolitan Opera House, the off-color humorist and singer said, “I remember all the friends I have lost in the war, and join my prayers with yours that it will be over soon.”

Bette Midler Searching for Partners in STAGES FOR SUCCESS INITIATIVE
by Louisa Brady
June 20, 2014
Bette Midler recently launched a program called the Stages for Success Initiative in association with The Jeckyl Foundation in hopes to raise money for schools with inadequate auditorium and rehearsal space. In 2012, the foundation completed renovation on a middle school in the South Bronx.
Read below for a message from Bette herself!
“A few years ago I launched the Stages for Success Initiative to modernize public school auditoriums in New York City, bringing much needed improvements to outdated and dysfunctional spaces. We’ve completed 3 schools so far, and we are hard at work on our next project in Far Rockaway, Queens, a community that was hit badly by Super Storm Sandy. But because there are so many more schools in need, I’m looking for generous partners to join my fundraising effort on CrowdRise. I will be matching every penny raised!
