“ Beaches” – Bette Midler makes a personal star vehicle out of this soap opera-cum -female buddy movie. It traces the friendship of two women, one a singer (Midler), the other a lawyer (Barbara Hershey) over their lives as they thrash out the true meaning of friendship, which is, I think, you should always forgive and forget when somebody is dying of a mysterious virus.
