“Actually I see myself as a running commentary on time, because I learnt a few years ago that everything becomes nostalgic, and everything becomes camp.

“And you always relate to certain things like they make you laugh or they make you sad – images, y’know.
“I mean no-one has ever sung ‘Do You Wanna Dance’ the way I have. No-one ever had that particular vision. But that’s the way I remember the song.

“When I came back a number of years later and decided to do it, that was exactly the way I felt it had to be done – a little melancholy on the side and sort of sexy, y’know. I also remembered ‘Leader of the Pack’ like that.” (Musical Express, 1973)
