Steve Martin, Goldie Hawn, Billy Crystal, Barbra Streisand and Jack Nicholson are among the celebrities who relate their experiences in an article by David Ragan in the current issue of Cosmopolitan.

“It took many years of analysis to discover I could be famous and still be me,” Ms. Hawn said. “I was afraid of it at first. 1 feared analysis might make me lose what I liked about myself – the little person who delights in little things, a woman who doesn’t need diamonds and furs to be happy. Director Mark Rydell says he “loved desperately” his film “For the Boys,” which fared poorly at the box office.

Although its star, James Caan, blamed the failure on co-star Bette Midler, whom he called “incredibly stupid,”

Rydell says the picture was marketed wrong.

He says, “It was an error to try to sell it as a Bette Midler musical.

Some people thought it was a concert film about the Persian Gulf.”

Opera star Placido Domingo, actress singer Bette Midler and “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin sang “Happy Anniversary” to Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani, who’s celebrating his 30th year in business.

The gala bash in New York doubled as an awards ceremony.

Valentino used the occasion to present his first annual Rose of Life awards to honor humanitarian contributions.

Domingo, Midler and Franklin were among the recipients of the award, a gold rose. Read More
