A heartwarming video shows how the gentle buzz of the library was interrupted, but in a good way, when more than a hundred people sang Bette Midler’s The Rose.

Those watching the special performance in the newly refurbished £170m Manchester Central Library were visibly moved.

The flashmob who surprised the library visitors were Simply Singing, who have been running singing initiatives in the north west for the last five years.

The video begins by showing people going about their everyday business in the library, some are scouring the book shelves or using the computers, while other relax with a hot drink in the cafe.
