Midler in’Gypsy‘

Bette Midler said Sunday she has yet to look at a cassette of that wonderful evening when she sang “Here Comes That Rainy Day” on Johnny Carson‘s ‘Tonight Show” a year ago May.
She and Johnny will “always have the memory,” she told TV writers Sunday.
She’s due to star in a TV version of “Gypsy” on CBS in August.
She said she had received a huge outpouring of mail thanking her for her farewell to Carson, expressing what the public would have liked to say to him itself.
