David Hyde Pierce, who plays the psychiatrist brother Niles on television’s Frasier, was named funniest supporting male performer for a third straight year at the American Comedy Awards.

Carol Burnett was also a repeat winner for her work on Mad About You, earning her second consecutive award as funniest female guest appearance in a television series.

As Good As It Gets grabbed both honors in the film category, with Helen Hunt named the funniest actress in a motion picture and Jack Nicholson the funniest actor.

The 12th annual American Comedy Awards were presented in Los Angeles Sunday and will be broadcast March 17 on Fox.

Performers were nominated by more than 4,000 producers, directors, writers, agents, bookers, executives and others. Final selections were made by 1,000 comedy performers.

The other winners were:

* Tracey Ullman, funniest female performer in a television series (leading role) network, cable or syndication, Tracey Takes On.

* Garry Shandling, funniest male performer in a television series (leading role) network, cable or syndication, The Larry Sanders Show.

* Bette Midler, funniest female performer in a television special (leading or supporting) network, cable or syndication, Bette Midler: Diva Las Vegas.

* George Carlin, funniest male performer in a television special (leading or supporting) network, cable or syndication, 40 Years of Comedy.

* Jula Louis-Dreyfus, funniest supporting female performer in a television series, Seinfeld.

* Joan Cusack, funniest supporting actress in a motion picture, In & Out.

* Rupert Everett, funniest supporting actor in a motion picture, My Best Friend’s Wedding.

* Jerry Stiller, funniest male guest appearance in a television series, Seinfeld.

* Maryellen Hooper, funniest female stand-up comic.

*Jeff Dunham, funniest male stand-up comic.

* Jerry Lewis, lifetime achievement award.

* Frank Oz, creative achievement award.
