Bette Midler, ‘Hocus Pocus’ cast wear costumes in reunion photo
October 19, 2020
(CNN) This might be the best thing that’s happened to Halloween.
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy have reprised their roles as the Sanderson sisters from the hit 1993 movie, “Hocus Pocus.”
Midler on Sunday shared a behind-the-scenes photo of herself alongside Parker and Najimy in character on her Instagram, and social media erupted into a frenzy.
Midler put it best in her caption, “‘In Search of the Sanderson Sisters’ is the best thing to happen to #Halloween since Hocus Pocus + Reeses Pieces!”
We couldn’t agree more.
The film has become a cult classic, and fans have been begging for a sequel for years. There’s reportedly one in the works over at Disney+.
But the latest reunion wasn’t for a new movie; it’s for Midler’s annual fundraiser known as Hulaween, benefiting her nonprofit, the New York Restoration Project, which works to restore gardens and parks in New York’s five boroughs.
This year’s event, “In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover,” is virtual due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It will be scripted by Eric Kornfeld and Bonnie McFarlane, with a cast of characters consisting hosted by Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and featuring: Glenn Close, Billy Crystal, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Debney, Samantha Diaz, Harry Guinness, Todrick Hall, Jennifer Hudson, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Michael Kors, Adam Lambert, George Lopez, Alex Moffat, Vanessa Shaw, Martin Short, Sarah Silverman, John Stamos, Meryl Streep, Kenan Thompson, Sophie von Haselberg, and other surprise guests.
Reserve your spot today for our one-hour virtual evening event on Friday, October 30! Your personalized access link will be emailed to you in advance of the event, and we will keep you informed of all the Hocus Pocus fun we have in store leading up to the big night.

Hello Mister D:
Quick question for you and your readers. I ordered merchandise from the Sanderson Sisters reunion NYRP website a couple weeks ago. Still haven’t received it. I emailed the orders@rockworldmerch.com website for a status update with no response. Received the link today for the Hulaween online event, but no word yet on the merchandise. I believe the shipping fee was for 2-3 day delivery. Some item(s) on the website showed out of stock, so I’m assuming that they have been shipping merchandise.
Have you or your readers experienced anything similar? Has anyone received ordered merchandise yet, or is it all to be shipped (hopefully!) this week?
Thank you in advance,
Ron
I only heard from one person who ordered wine but never got it the last I heard. I was in the middle of a big move so I didn’t order anything I’m wondering if the demand far exceeded what they had. But I haven’t heard from anybody but you two.
Thank you! It would probably need to ship out today to arrive in time for Hallo/Hulaween. I tried calling NYRP also, but they just have a message recorder, and aren’t really fulfilling the merchandise product. Nice idea, though. There was some pretty cool merchandise. I’ve been in retail most of my life, so understand how difficult it can be. This is why Amazon is #1.
I tried writing Bette’s assistant. But got a mad answer that it’s too busy for them to answer those questions. So…..I dropped that real quick lol
Hello All, I got a tracking number today for some of the NYRP on site merch, so hopefully you did too. As for the wine, I got an email saying it was cancelled. I dont know if it was just my order, or if all of it was cancelled, i tried contacting the vendor and NYRP and did not receive a response at all regarding the wine.
Thanks,
Jill
I tried to get info for you Jill about wine and wrote Bette’s assistant whom I have a good relationship with. Bette kind of set that up after a meeting we had. It took Jill a couple of weeks to grow fond of me lol But I about got my head bit off asking about that wine. She said she was too busy with Hulaween to know any of that stuff, so I guess NYRp or the vendor should be contacted. I know Jill gets run ragged at this time of year and I should’ve known better lol
Hi Mr D, Thank you as always!! I can only imagine how setting this party up and especially in today’s environment is stressful. Thank again for even reaching out!! I hope your move went well and that Florida is treating you well. Sending you love and support through the ether!!
Jill
Thank you so much Mr. D! I greatly appreciate you taking the moment to reach out and I can certainly understand that this is a crazy time for Jill on a normal year, yet alone a year in quarantine. I hope you are doing well with your move and Florida is treating you well. You are in my thoughts and prayers and I hope all is well down there!!! Thank you always for all you do!!
Oh you’re welcome! Wish I could’ve gotten you an answer. I’m slowly adapting to Florida to put it nicely, but it’s been kind of rough. It just all happened so fast I just didn’t have time to prepare myself for the drastic change, but I’m going to be fine. Thank you for the love through the internet. I do believe I felt a little hug! LOL
Thank you for your follow-up on this. You really shouldn’t have, and I feel bad that you kinda stuck your neck out on this (hope you didn’t get Bette’s assistant too upset). Hulaween is the big event, and will definitely overshadow the merchandise end of it. However, the merchandise part of it is also designed to raise money for the charity, so to not get a response from the fulfillment group isn’t going to help NYRP–especially if there are requests for refunds or chargebacks for items fulfilled after Halloween. Trust me, I’m in retail–they will come! In any event, looking forward to the Hulaween event. Would love to hear more about Hocus Pocus 2 during the hour. I had a feeling there would be major excitement with the entire cast on board for the event. Can we say it’s a 99% done deal? All the best, and as Jill echoed, hope you’re enjoying Florida. I love Florida, so I’m a bit jealous.
I know this isn’t the right forum, but I thought I would give you an update on the charity merchandise that I ordered (and vent a little). I ordered NYRP Hocus Pocus merchandise on 10/14 with a 2-3 day delivery time frame. Didn’t arrive until yesterday (Nov. 5), even though I was hoping to get it in time for the Hulaween event.
Between 10/20 and 10/31, I called NYRP (message box was full so couldn’t leave a message), left two email messages with the merchandise fulfillment company and a telephone message with them–all with no response–zero, zippo, nada. So, I challenged the charge with my credit card company. Once the credit card company notified the fulfillment company, they decided to send me the product. Oddly, prior to sending out, I checked online at the NYRP website, and all of the product was sold out and not available–and then, a few days later they send out the product. I’m confused??
Anyway, I have the product now–almost a week after Halloween/Hulaween. I realize that the money spent is primarily designed to help Bette and NYRP achieve their goals, and for that reason I’m not upset. I’ve donated to NYRP before, getting nothing in return, so tying it in to Hocus Pocus merchandise is kind of icing on the cake. I’m glad it ultimately worked out. However, the lack of responsiveness after repeated follow-up attempts make it unlikely that I will engage in future events like this. Lesson learned. Here’s hoping there’s a Hocus Pocus 2, with Bette, Sarah, and Kathy involved (as well as many others perhaps, from the original cast, too). Is this still a question mark? Were there any signatures on the dotted lines? Hmmm…
Sorry to hear That…and they’ve usually been good in the past, but I have to say this is on par for a lot of the service I’ve gotten since Covid. So, in a way, I’m not surprised.
