In the month of December, millions across the world are preparing for the joy, frustration, tears, and gift giving times Christmas has to offer. Families, couples, and celebrities alike are taking the time to celebrate the holidays in their own special way. Social media has its cons, but the positivity that comes with it revolves around intriguing ideas like hashtags and goals.

#Myelf is a trend that features anyone that has a name sounding similar to another and placing them on their shoulder in a smaller form. For example, NSYNC’s Lance Bass has Chance the Rapper on his shoulder, which brought fans much laughter while contributing to the hashtag trend. What other celebrities have taken on this trend? There are the likes of Joe Jonas, Priyanka Chopra, and many more..

There are many examples that you can find all over Instagram by searching #myelf. Whether fictional or not, it is a fun tradition that brings celebrities and fans closer to get a good laugh and even be surprised with who has a similar sounding name. Real-life celebrities seem to be more common, and it honestly brings up some possibilities for the two to collaborate just for their names alone. For example, Tom Felton has the legendary John Elton, Yvette Nicole Brown has Bette Midler, Priyanka has Oprah, and Adam Levine has Celine Dion.

So who has a fictional character as an elf on their shoulder? As the second Jonas brother posted, he used Poe from Teletubbies, which is an unlikely, but convincing duo. Then there’s Jon Bon Jovi with the hilarious Ron Burgundy from the movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Mark Ruffalo got creative by giving his co-star Robert Downey Jr. by featuring Tony Stark/Iron Man, which brought Marvel fans together for a short moment. And while not exactly fictional, Reese Witherspoon used the movie Grease by featuring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as her elves.

The overall results are incredibly funny, but also endearing. Out of all the trends that came out this year on social media, #myelf is perhaps the most wholesome and clever idea. It is definitely something to give a needed distraction once Christmas finally comes. If your name rhymes with a celebrity, friend, or family member, who would be the elf on your shoulder?
