‘Halloween Ends’ Scares Up the Top Spot on This Week’s Streaming Movie Ranker | Chart

Mister D: I’m using Whip Media to measure the streaming success of movies because it measures movies against other streaming movies across a whole board of streaming channels. Therefore, you can see better how movies rank among each other. Just looking at how it ranks on Disney+ doesn’t much tell you anything unless you can see how it’s doing amongst other movies streaming. The same should be said for the music streaming charts. It’s doing fabulous on the Disney +. The songs from the new album are doing great on there because they are about the only songs streaming, And also, don’t forget that Disney+ has only been in existence since 2019, so for HP2 making history in streams, well, it did, but they are only measuring new release premieres from Disney+ as I said. But I can’t find the songs or album as a few days on the national charts. Now that may sound like a buzzkill. Yes, I can be a buzzkill, but I can also help you find more meaningful information. And, yes, I can be very wrong, too, so tell me if I’ve missed something. After all, I’m the geezer!
Hocus Pocus 2 And Its Original Still Remain Strong Going Into The Fourth Weekend “Halloween Ends” had a healthy — albeit slightly underwhelming — box office performance in its debut weekend, but the 13th film in the popular horror franchise looks to have made up for it with a strong debut on Peacock, according to Whip Media’s latest movie ranker — which reflects data from TV time, a TV and movie app that tracks viewer interest from 22 million global registered users.
That’s because “Halloween Ends” was the most streamed movie in the U.S. last weekend, per Whip Media’s viewer data. The latest “Halloween” flick, starring Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, Michael Myers’ longtime nemesis, topped the streaming chart while it topped the domestic box office, bringing in $41.2 million.
While that’s well ahead of the film’s $30 million budget, its ticket sales came in slightly below expectations. Independent trackers had expected “Halloween Ends” to at least match the $49.4 million earned by “Halloween Kills” last year. Part of that can be attributed to less-than-stellar reviews, which may have made some “Halloween” fans opt to watch the new release on Peacock instead. (It’s worth pointing out that “Halloween Kills” was also released on Peacock at the same time it hit theaters in 2021.)
The horror theme continued with “Werewolf by Night” on Disney+, which dropped one spot from last week to take the silver medal in Whip Media’s rankings. As TheWrap previously reported, the Marvel mini-movie was billed as a “Marvel Studios Special Presentation” and sports a runtime of just under an hour; it stars Gael Garcia Bernal as the title character — aka Jack Russell in human form — who is a monster hunter who is called upon to capture and kill an elusive beast.
Netflix’s “Luckiest Girl Alive” showed it has staying power. Meanwhile, it moved from last week to being the third most-streamed movie. The mystery-thriller — based on the popular novel of the same name by Jessica Knoll — stars Mila Kunis as a woman who must grapple with a major secret after she’s interviewed for a true crime documentary. Not exactly a comedy, but not horror, either.
And speaking of staying power, “Hocus Pocus 2” on Disney+ had another strong week, coming in at No. 4 on Whip Media’s ranker. The sequel to 1993’s “Hocus Pocus” was ranked first and second the previous two weekends, respectively. “Hocus Pocus 2” — which had Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reprise their roles — also continued to boost “Hocus Pocus,” which was the 10th most streamed movie last weekend.
The Halloween theme rolled on with “The Curse of Bridge Hollow” in the fifth spot. The comedy-horror movie hit Netflix last Friday and stars Marlon Wayans as a dad who must save his tiny New England town after Halloween decorations come to life.
Hulu scored back-to-back, with rom-com “Rosaline” grabbing the sixth spot and “Hellraiser” in seventh place. The latest “Hellraiser” flick — the 11th overall in the franchise — dropped from its third-place ranking last week.
It was followed this week by “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which continues to be a strong weekly performer for Disney+.
Similarly, Netflix’s “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone,” based on a Stephen King novel, remained in the top 10 — falling from fifth to ninth place this week.
