Cher’s Most Awesome Musical Collabs
“If I Could Turn Back Time,” “Belief,” “Strong Enough”—there is no shortage of catchy Cher songs. Throughout the years, Cher has not only released countless hit singles and toured the world but she’s also collaborated with some of the biggest names in music.
From belting out a duet with Elton John while he played the piano, to having Bowie sing a “Young Americans” medley with her, Cher has had countless memorable moments performing with fellow singers and musicians throughout the years. Whether inviting them on her show, aptly named The Cher Show, in the 1970s, or participating in VH1 specials with other household names such as Cyndi Lauper, the inimitable singer’s musical collabs are one for the books. Ahead, we take a look at some of our favorites.
Tina Turner & Kate Smith
In 1975, Cher had both Tina Turner and Kate Smith, a daytime radio icon, on The Cher Show to perform a Beatles medley with her. Cher and Turner would remain close friends until Turner passed away in 2023.
Raquel Welch
Hollywood screen siren, Raquel Welch, was a guest on The Cher Show in the 1970s. The two, who wore matching silver sequined gowns with strappy details, joined forces to sing “I’m A Woman.” Besides The Cher Show, Welch appeared on other popular television shows, including Seinfeld and Mork & Mindy.
Elton John
Elton John came onto The Cher Show to duet with the pop singer in 1975. The two performed a harmonious rendition of John’s song, “Bennie and the Jets.” That same night, Cher and John also shared the stage with Bette Midler to perform a medley of other songs.
Bette Midler
Speaking of Midler, the New York native sang another medley of songs with Cher while dressed in lace corsets and oversized feather boas.
David Bowie
Bowie collaborated with Cher as well in the 1970s. The two performers took the Cher Show stage to sing a “Young Americans” medley, one of Bowie’s songs on his 1975 studio album
Gregg Allman
Gregg Allman, of Allman Brothers fame, also went on The Cher Show to duet with the famous singer. Cher and Allman not only performed together, but they dated, as well. The two, who met at one of Allman’s solo concerts in Los Angeles, had one son together, Elijah Blue Allman.
Cyndi Lauper
Cher and Cyndi Lauper sang Cher’s hit song, “If I Could Turn Back Time,” during the “VH1 Divas Las Vegas” show. Lauper also previously opened up for Cher during Cher’s Believe tour.
