Video Of The Day: Bette Midler – Is That All There Is?

Bette Midler’s rendition of “Is That All There Is?” covers the classic song by Peggy Lee. Midler’s version is part of her 2005 album “Bette Midler Sings the Peggy Lee Songbook.” The song has introspective lyrics that reflect on life’s experiences and the existential musings they provoke. Midler’s performance brings emotional depth and shows her ability to convey the song’s poignant message.

For the video, Bette Midler performs a live in-studio performance at Capitol Records, an intimate after-hours session featuring this song. This performance is authentic, and the emotional resonance Midler brings to the music captures the essence of the original while adding her unique interpretation.

Directed by Steve Lippman, aka FLIP. Bette Midler’s brilliant live in-studio performance of the Leiber & Stoller/Peggy Lee classic “Is That All There Is?” This is an excerpt from a short video program I directed for the album “Bette Midler Sings the Peggy Lee Songbook” (Sony/Columbia Records) featuring intimate after-hours in-studio performances by Ms. Midler. This performance is an alternate take, different from the album version, done exclusively for the camera. We shot this at the legendary Capitol Records, Studio A, where the spirits of Miss Lee and so many other greats could be felt that day. This was 3rd and final take. The story is told, and the tears are real-time suspended in front and behind the lens.” – Steve Lippman
