BE COOL SPOOF RAISES A LAUGH

Marketing bosses at film studio MGM are hoping to boost the fortunes of JOHN TRAVOLTA’s new movie BE COOL by releasing a parody of trade magazine DAILY VARIETY, featuring stories about the characters in the film.

The hilarious parody, which has been sent to members of the press, features joke stories about BETTE MIDLER, Travolta’s movie mogul character CHILI PALMER, an obituary for JAMES WOODS’ character TOMMY ATHENS, ANDRE 3000, CHRISTINA MILIAN and DANNY DeVITO.

But perhaps the funniest story in the spoof mag is one suggesting AEROSMITH star STEVEN TYLER, who features in the film, will place his famous lips in cement on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

There’s also a passing nod to Travolta’s big box office rival TOM HANKS, whose fictitious movie MR LOVEJOY is the film of the week in the parody publication, making $72 million (GBP37.9 million) in its first weekend.

Be Cool was expected to debut at number one on the weekend’s box office chart but it fell almost $7 million (GBP3.7 million) short of VIN DIESEL’s new family comedy THE PACIFIER.
