Bette Midler to Be Honored for Environmental Work at Annual Hulaween Party
Performer’s non-profit, the New York Restoration Project, celebrates 20th anniversary this year

Bette Midler’s annual Hawaii-themed Halloween masquerade benefiting the New York Restoration Project (NYRP) will not only be celebrating its 20th anniversary, but will also bestow the “Green Goddess” Award upon the gala’s founder. Hell Night on Hulaween Island: A Night to Dismember will take place on Friday, October 30th at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
“I am so proud of our part in changing the face of the city, in cleaning parks, highways, and vacant lots, in saving and supporting community gardens and in pointing out that the citizens of the greatest city in the world deserve a healthy, clean, sustainable environment,” Midler said in a statement. The “Green Goddess” Award will celebrate the actress, singer and NYRP founder’s environmental efforts.
Midler founded the NYRP in 1995 as a means to create greener, more sustainable spaces throughout New York City. The non-profit has partnered with the City of New York on the MillionTreesNYC initiative to plant one million new trees throughout all five boroughs, as well.
“We’re grateful to recognize the benevolence of our supporters and our 17,000 volunteers, whose contributions have allowed NYRP to help New York City plant a historic 1 million trees, transform more than 800 New York City acres and to bring us closer to our goal of ensuring that every New Yorker is within walking distance of a public park or garden,” NYRP’s Executive Director Deborah Marton said in a statement.
Dan and Sheryl Tishman, one of New York’s leading real estate families, will also be awarded the “Wind Beneath My Wings” Leadership Award at the party, which will be hosted by comedian Judy Gold. Other special guests include a performance from Nile Rodgers and Chic and a Halloween costume contest judged by Michael Kors.
Tickets for Hell Night on Hulaween Island, which culls inspiration from Fifties and Sixties “B” horror films, start at $650 and are available on NYRP’s official site.
