She Kissed A Girl: Jill Sobule – Bette Midler Recorded One Of Her Songs – Never Released

FRI, 2017-09-15 11:56

This article originally appeared in the June 1995 issue of OUT.

It’s the sort of daydream around which Jill Sobule might fashion one of her whimsical songs: she was hanging around her house in Los Angeles, in her pajamas, when a talent scout who had acquired her demo tape purely by accident called to invite her to perform at the Atlantic Records office the next day. Two days later, he called again—from an airplane— to tell Sobule she was as good as signed. All this as a result of “demos that my previous manager, who dropped me, said were ‘Terrible! BetteBack March 3, 1975: Friends Commission Neon Portrait Of Midler

Ames Daily Tribune
March 3, 1975

An offshoot is a workshop for those who want to decorate their apartments with neon sculpture. Read More

BETTE MIDLER, a.k.a. the Divine Miss M, whose career began on Broadway as a chorus girl in “Fiddler on the Roof,” will be back on the boards, this time as the star of her own production. “The Bette Midler Revue” is exactly what it sounds like — hoofing, chirping, clowning and presenting some unspecified “new characterizations,” with the stage to herself. No date or theater has been named.
