As a follow-up to my conversation with Commissioner Silver, I contacted Deborah Marton to speak with her about the New York Restoration Project’s work with under-served communities in New York. The group’s mission states:

New York Restoration Project (NYRP) is a non-profit organization driven by the conviction that all New Yorkers deserve beautiful, high-quality public space within ready walking distance of their homes. Since our founding in 1995 by Bette Midler, NYRP has planted trees, renovated gardens, restored parks, and transformed open space for communities throughout New York City’s five boroughs. As New York’s only citywide conservancy, we bring private resources to spaces that lack adequate municipal support, fortifying the City’s aging infrastructure and creating a healthier environment for those who live in the most densely populated and least green neighborhoods. Audio Auction: Bette Midler LIVE 1972 NYC club concert reel-to-reel tape unheard ONE-OF-A-KIND! (Take A Listen)

Bette Midler - Rare Tracks Auctioned Off On Ebay

From Wild Honey Records: Click Here

Check out the EBay Auction: Click Here

Hiding in an unmarked tape box for over 40 years, here we have an entire, never-before-heard 1972 performance by Bette Midler! This in-house stereo recording was made by Continental Baths deejay Don Fendley in early 1972 (most likely on January 15th).

This 77-minute show was recorded straight through (no edits or interruptions) using at least two onstage microphones, which were likely fed into the DJ booth.

This is Miss M. captured during one of The Baths’ famed Saturday night cabaret shows — and as this historic recording documents, she keeps the audience right in the palm of her hand! Bette proudly introduces her excellent backing band (Michael Federal, Kevin Ellman, Lee Gurst and Barry Manilow), teases club owner Steve Ostrow and praises The Baths toward the end of the show. The evening concludes with a final announcement by the MC: “We ask that the ladies — as soon as they can get themselves together — please leave and we can turn The Baths back to us boys and then we’ll have our disco!” Read More

    Steal Away Again
    (Carole Bayer Sager/Bruce Roberts/Bette Midler)

Baby won't you come and take me by my hand
Won't you come and take me for a ride
We almost got to Disneyland one night
It was abandoned in the light
And then the wind blew in Whisperin"
Some folks are not meant to win
Tell me how would you like it
    Say would you like it
Close your eyes and maybe we could roll away again
Tell me how would you like it
    Say would you like it
If you and I were crazy we would
    Steal away again

Baby won't you come and take me to the sea
Well find ourselves a ship that is heaven bound
We almost sailed away one pearly dawn
But in the light of early morning
Ooo the wind blew in Whisperin
Some folks ore not meant to win

Tell, me how would you like it
    Say would you like it
Close your eyes and maybe we could roll away again
    How would you like it
    Say would you like it
If you and I were dumb enough
We would steal away again Read More

Sarah Jessica Parker doesn’t mind being one of Bette Midler’s “girls.”

The 53-year-old “Sex and the City” star visited “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” on Thursday night, where she was asked about Bette Midler’s recent comments to ET about their time together on “Hocus Pocus”.

At the time, Midler was gushing about rewatching the Halloween classic 20 years later, telling ET, “I had forgotten how good it was and how good everybody was, I mean, everybody. I mean, I didn’t realize what was going on behind me. Those girls were carrying on something terrible, and the kids were great.” Read More

Video: MURPHY BROWN S1 • E9 A Lifetime of Achievement (With Bette Midler)

I’m happy to report that this week’s Murphy Brown offers another half-hour of sweet respite from what’s passing for our shared reality these days — and only partly because current events take a back seat to the storyline. Or, as Murphy puts it after wrapping up another Murphy in the Morning with the news that Jim Dial is going to receive the Lionel P. Humboldt Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Journalism, “Let’s end this broadcast before any breaking news harshes our mellow.” Read More
