Bette Midler, Shovel, Tree

New Yorkers will tell you they would literally kill for a bit of outdoor space.  Parks and community gardens are a precious commodity in this town, and a lifeline to stressed hot city dwellers both young and old.  Luckily the Big Apple has a seed-planting superhero in the one and only Bette Midler, who hosted a perfect summer evening picnic in East Harlem at one of the sites she helped rescue, and partied with Debbie Harry and Michael Kors and a room of generous benefactors. Buzzy Linhart, Bette Midler

Multi-instrumentalist and recording artist Buzzy Linhart suffered what is described as a “major seizure event” on Tuesday (May 29) and remains in the hospital recovering.

Buzzy’s son, Xeno David Rasmusson, posted about the situation on Tuesday:

Hey Friends, my father Buzzy Linhart had a major seizure event this morning and is in the ICU at Alta Bates in Berkeley. He is sedated, intubated and resting after a lot of testing today. MRI came back normal, so we are hopeful he will emerge from sedation in the morning. Room mate Lenny acted quickly so the care was delivered quickly, so for now all we can do is rest, pray, and fire up the Buzzy Linhart music. @linhartbuzzy #buzzylovesyou Read More

Young MC’s Recipe For Success And Did You Know That Bette Midler Has Been Sampled By A lot Of Rap Artists?

MixTape MixUp
‘Bust A Move”s Recipe for Success
May 23, 2018

For a time in 1989, Marvin Young was responsible for some of the biggest commercial hip-hop hits of the day. A college senior, Young penned the lyrics for Tone Loc’s most famous songs and, under his performing alias Young MC, had a massive hit of his own with “Bust a Move.” To this day, no ‘80s hip-hop compilation is complete without his wise, yet self-deprecating lyrics, his smooth but speedy flow and a mix of samples that would make any crate-digger proud. ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Season 10, Episode 7: The Mermaid Fantasy runway challenge, a homage to the Divine Miss M

Mister D: So they did a Bette Midler/Delores Delago tribute on Rupaul and I missed it, but I did have the hilarious pleasure of reading some of the younger generation’s reaction. There was the who is Bette Midler crowd. Really. Some just didn’t get Delores Delago. What’s there not to get? And last and least the social justice warriors who thought the act was misguided and making fun of disabled people. Well, think they would be flabbergasted at how a disabled person could be so resourceful that she could choreograph a dance, sing fabulously while rolling around at breakneck speed on a stage, tell jokes, and then to top it off lead a fucking sing a long. Or maybe they could have just looked at it as a resourceful mermaid who went on to become a superstar while stranded on land. Thank God the majority of folks were overjoyed with glee at a homage to Bette Midler and the recently deceased Delores DeLago, The Toast Of Chicago. Long Live Delores! Read More

TOP 10: LOOKING FOR OSCAR GLORY AFTER 1991 (Bette Makes The List Twice)

Awards Circiut
TOP 10: LOOKING FOR OSCAR GLORY AFTER 1991
By Sam Coffey – Apr 4, 20180

ACCA 1991As voting continues in ACCA 1991, Awards Circuit celebrates the many great films of 1991, perhaps one of the most historic years in Oscar history.  A number of talented performers, directors, writers, and craftsmen were nominated (or won!) for their great achievements but have somehow not found their way back to the Dolby Theatre.  Mercifully, some actors who remained on this barren list for ages eventually found Oscar glory again, with Robert De Niro landing his first nomination since “Cape Fear” with “Silver Linings Playbook” and Laura Dern doing the same in 2014 with “Wild” following up her first nomination for “Rambling Rose.”  Unfortunately, too many winners and nominees from 1991 have passed away, failing to get back to Oscar since this year, including Jessica TandyJack Palance, cinematographer Adrian Biddle, and shockingly Jonathan Demme.
