Bette Midler Taunts Donald Trump For Claiming Democrats Will Turn Violent After Midterms
By Lee Moran

Bette Midler zinged President Donald Trump on Thursday after he warned of “violence” should Democrats wrestle control of the House of Representatives from the GOP in the upcoming November midterm elections.

Earlier this week, Trump reportedly told evangelical Christian leaders that Democrats would “overturn everything that we’ve done, and they’ll do it quickly and violently, and violently. There’s violence. When you look at antifa and you look at some of these groups — these are violent people.” Read More

Bette Midler Hits The Top 10 Of Top Ten Celebrities On Social Media

Hollywood Reporter
Terry Crews Hits No. 1 on Top Actors Social Media Ranking After Senate Speech
9:50 AM 7/7/2018
by Kevin Rutherford

Bette Midler

After speaking in front of the U.S. Senate condemning sexual assault, Terry Crews launches to No. 1 on The Hollywood Reporter’s Top Actors chart dated July 11.

The Top Actors chart is a ranking of the most popular actors on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Google Plus, with global data provided by social media analytics company MVPindex. The chart’s methodology blends social engagement on the platforms along with weekly additions of followers/subscribers. The latest tracking week ended July 3.

Crews, who had only spent one other week on the chart previously (May 23, debuting at No. 15 following the renewal of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, on which he co-stars), re-enters the chart at No. 1, leads Zendaya, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Will Smith and Alyssa Milano in the top five.

Meanwhile, Crews isn’t the only actor to reach the top 10 for the first time, with Bette Midler and Ice Cube ranking at Nos. 6 and 9, respectively.

See the top 10 below (and for the full 25-position list, check out the THR issue dated July 11), and for more charts on The Hollywood Reporter, check out the Top Comedians and Top TV Personalities charts.

The rapper/actor born O’Shea Jackson makes his THR chart debut (alongside, of course, his seven top 10s as a solo artist on the Billboard 200 albums chart) by snagging 150,000 Facebook post likes and 119,000 shares on the service, both up from insignificant amounts the previous week. His top-performing post celebrated LeBron James’ move to the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2018-2019 NBA season.

After reaching a new chart high (No. 13) on the previous July 4-dated ranking, rises to No. 6 thanks to boosts in all Twitter metrics, including 505,000 Twitter mentions, up 33 percent. The actor/singer’s most-shared posts tended to be about President Donald Trump in some capacity, including a June 28 tweet in which she wrote, “Trump and Putin are meeting in Finland next month. That’s a long way to travel for a blowjob, but hey – Putin’s got the money.”

Crews, who spoke in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 28 about sexual assault (of which he was a victim by a TV executive), tweeted multiple messages of thanks afterward to Joe Biden, Gabrielle Union and more. In all, Crews received 2.2 million Twitter likes and 536,000 retweets.

BLB Updates From Mister D: I’m Changing, I’m Changing…And You’re Gonna Love Me! UHHH!

Mister D: Hey Ladies and Germs! I just wanted to tell you that I’m making some changes on the Bootleg Betty website. Some will be behind the scenes kind of stuff that wouldn’t interest you in the least, and some will be cosmetic. This old girl’s been the same without nary a nip or tuck since 2002.

Caricature, Bette Midler, Mister D

Part of that is because I just got comfortable with the way things so who really wants to fuck it up? Well, I reached that point where I’m ready to pick a fight with myself and change it up. I’m going slowly right now, but in the end, it may look like a whole different place. Or, since I really don’t know what I’m doing I could wipe out the whole thing easily. Talk about needing therapy will become a reality and maybe a few shock treatments would help, too. That is my ultimate fear, but I’ve made peace with that should it happen. So many great things have come my way because of this site.

!. Ok, so far, the only physical changes I’ve made and I’m going back away, was to have each article post that was over 100 words to only show those first hundred words as an “excerpt” with a “read more” link to view the full article. This just helps with download time mostly

2. The sharing icons like FB, Twitter, Google+, and Pinterest are at the bottom of every article, but the only way that they will appear is if you click on the title of the article, then you can share that article with whichever option you want. I may be adding more sharing buttons too.

3. On the right-hand side of the page, you’ll notice Bette Midler product. But as you scroll down I’ve created some widgets for you to follow if you’re interested in what we’re doing on Facebook, Our pictures on Pinterest or Our Tweets on Twitter.

4. Some people wrote me a while back and asked me if I could incorporate the Disqus comment board to Bootleg Betty, and I just said no…LOL. But I started looking into it because they used it on a lot of sites I visit, so I can stay logged in and just jump into other conversations elsewhere. Supposedly this board is really popular and more real-time than a lot of others. So, if you have to register (I haven’t looked that close), please do. It’ll take just a minute. I think you’re able to add images, videos, audio, etc to you’re comments. So just give it a chance before you throw a hissy fit like I did trying to get it work. Thanks.

5. Oh, I added push notifications for those who would like to be alerted when I post something new to Bootleg Betty. The first time you come to the site you’ll see a rectangular, maybe square box pop up on your screen and it will ask you would you like to receive notification if I post something new. If you don’t want them bothering you, then just hit “block” or “close” and if you do want them just hit the accept button. Not sure if it works on mobile yet, but that’s what I will be aiming for.

Anyway, that’s all I can think of so far. My big goal is to just change the page look and make it more modern, but I just love this old look, too. It’s kind of whimsical and so full of color, but well, these are the years of change, I guess

Bette Midler Wants Donald Trump to “Open His Eyes for Once”

Vanity Fair
Bette Midler Wants Donald Trump to “Open His Eyes for Once”
by PAUL CHI
JUNE 13, 2018 6:35 PM

Just a few days after Donald Trump skipped a G7 session on the environment, one of his former Twitter targets was out in New York to advocate for it. Bette Midler, whose nonprofit, New York Restoration Project, cleans up parks and gardens throughout New York City, hosted the organization’s 17th annual Spring Picnic gala at Harlem’s Rodale Pleasant Park Community Garden on Tuesday. And maybe it’s the early summer weather, or her imminent return to Broadway as the fearlessly optimistic star of Hello, Dolly!, but Midler was in a more conciliatory mood than Trump usually is.

“Holy cow, I could go off. I’m saying nice things tonight, so I’m biting my tongue,” Midler said when asked what she would say to Trump to persuade him on the environment. “I will say: no administration lasts forever. That’s the only positive thing about all of this.”

Midler’s and Trump’s Twitter sparring goes back to 2012, when he devoted no fewer than five tweets to personally insulting her. Midler continues to keep up her end of the conversation, including this June 7 tweet:

Bette Midler
?
@BetteMidler
#Satan is jealous of #Trump.

10:52 AM – Jun 7, 2018

Midler, who fell in love with nature while growing up in Hawaii, is perplexed that the president and White House officials are ignoring the rise of natural disasters and studies stating that climate change is increasing the risk of extreme-weather events, including droughts, flooding, and heat waves.

“Something is going on. Some of the fires, the hurricanes, the snow storms, the gigantic floods, and natural disasters that happened all over the world show that things are not the way they were. He needs to open his eyes for once,” Midler said. “If you are old as I am—and I’m pretty old—you know that something has changed. We need leadership with an intellect, [that] has a vision, and believes that we have to accomplish in solving these problems.”

Blondie singer Debbie Harry, a supporter of the project, echoed Midler’s sentiments. She finds it “scary” that Trump doesn’t care about the state of the environment, and that business takes precedence over the natural world.

“He’s senseless, and I doubt he has any emotional depth of any sort,” said Harry, who led a sing-along of the Beatles’ “Can’t Buy Me Love” with Midler during the gala’s dinner. “It’s tragic that he doesn’t care about the environment or anything else except himself. I find it unbelievable. What Bette is doing is helping everyone. The more green spaces we have, people are happier and feel better. He can learn a lot from her.”

What’s Bette Midler Reading? “Just The Funny Parts” By Nell Scovell

From the Back Cover

Just the Funny Parts is a juicy and scathingly funny insider look at how pop culture gets made. For more than thirty years, writer, producer, and director Nell Scovell worked behind the scenes of iconic shows, including The Simpsons, Late Night with David Letterman, Murphy Brown, NCIS, The Muppets, and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, which she created and executive produced.

Then in 2009, Scovell gave up her behind-the-scenes status when the David Letterman sex scandal broke. Only the second woman ever to write for his show, Scovell used the moment to publicly call out the lack of gender diversity in late-night TV writers’ rooms. “One of the boys” came out hard for “all of the girls.” Her criticisms fueled a cultural debate. Two years later, Scovell was collaborating with Sheryl Sandberg on speeches and later on Lean In, which resulted in a worldwide movement.

Now Scovell is opening up with this fun, honest, and often shocking account. Scovell knows what it’s like to put words in the mouths of President Barack Obama, Mark Harmon, Candice Bergen, Bob Newhart, Conan O’Brien, Alyssa Milano, and Kermit the Frog, among many others. Through her eyes, you’ll sit in the Simpsons writers’ room . . . stand on the red carpet . . . pin a tail on Miss Piggy . . . bond with Star Trek’s Leonard Nimoy . . . and experience a Stephen King–like encounter with Stephen King.

Review

“This clear-eyed account of 30 years in a profoundly flawed industry is the funniest, most unflinching book I’ve read in a long time. I laughed out loud so many times. If you’ve ever watched TV, you should read this book. And if you’ve ever read a book, you should read this one, too.” (John Oliver)

“First things first. Just the Funny Parts is, like Nell Scovell herself, funny as hell. Laugh-out-loud chuckles, eye rolls, embarrassed (for Nell) giggles—it’s all there. But there’s a lot more, too. This is a smart, wise book about growing up, growing old(er), and most of all, what it means to be a woman in a man’s world. That’s no joke. (But it is, as I mentioned, funny.)” (Jeffrey Toobin, author of American Heiress)

“Nell Scovell has finally written the book that everyone in the comedy world has been waiting for! Besides being one of the funniest people I know, she has not just survived, but she has thrived. How the hell did she do it?? Crack it open and find out!” (Bette Midler)

“This book is soooo good! Nell not only recalls her comedy writing career with wit but also transports us there to sit alongside her as witness. Just the Funny Parts could easily be called Just The Brave Parts.” (Larry Wilmore)

“Nell is an incredible writer, and this book is just as amazing as I would expect. I particularly liked page 213.” (Samantha Bee, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee )

“In Just the Funny Parts, Nell Scovell offers readers an unvarnished look into a writer’s life. Through her unique lens, she bravely confronts some uncomfortable truths, and yet keeps you laughing the whole way through.” (George Lucas, yeah that George Lucas)

“I’ve known for a while that Nell is an unusually talented and funny writer, but I had no idea just how much she shaped the TV that I’ve watched for decades—or how much bias she faced along the way. Despite that (and sometimes because of it), this book was a delight to read. It’s full of jokes that made me laugh and sharp analyses that made me think.” (Adam Grant, New York Times bestselling author of Give and Take and Originals, and co-author of Option B)

“In this illuminating memoir, Scovell details her career as a highly successful television writer over the last three decades, during which she was usually the only woman in the room… Scovell has repeatedly felt the sting of toiling in Los Angeles, “where rejection and failure are the bread and butter of this gluten-free, nondairy town,” and in an industry that continually looked for a cheaper, younger version of her. But in working with Sheryl Sandberg as the co-writer on Lean In, she was reminded of a timeless lesson: doing something that is meaningful to oneself might also have an impact on others. Scovell’s memoir is wonderfully entertaining and ultimately uplifting.”

Bette Midler And Others Send Congrats To Kathy Griffin And Her Comeback

The Wrap
Comedian Kathy Griffin is “in shock” and “so grateful” that her show at New York’s 3,671-seat Carnegie Hall sold out — in one day.
Rosemary Rossi

“I just found out that my Carnegie Hall show sold out in a day. I’m in shock,” she tweeted Saturday. “For most of the past year I was convinced that my career was over…I have felt moments of despair that I can’t describe in a tweet. Thank you from the bottom of my heart…I am so grateful.”

I just found out that my Carnegie Hall show sold out in a day. I’m in shock. For most of the past year I was convinced that my career was over…I have felt moments of despair that I can’t describe in a tweet. Thank you from the bottom of my heart…I am so grateful.

It’s been nine months since Griffin’s photo holding a fake decapitated President Donald Trump head caused an uproar that threw her life and career in turmoil. Venues cancelled her tour dates, CNN dropped her as co-host of its annual New Year’s Eve broadcast and she became the subject of a Secret Service investigation for “conspiracy to assassinate the president.”

News of Griffin’s comeback made lots of her fans very happy, including a few famous ones. Amber Tamblyn tweeted, “Love you, Kathy,” while Bette Midler went into a little more detail, writing, “Congratulations and welcome back! You were in Show Biz jail longer than the Stanford Rapist was in real jail!”
