Springsteen had always sought to re-create Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound"
with his E-Street Band (one listen to "Born to Run" is all the proof
you need), so when Steven Van Zandt wrote "All Alone on Christmas" for
ex-Phil Spector singer par excellance Darlene Love, he also used four other former
E-Streeters to back her up on this full-scale production, adding six horns, bells,
tambourines and extra percussion to outdo the "Boss" in aping the "Wall
of Sound." The remainder of the CD...has cuts from Bette Midler, Atlantic
Starr, even a later Johnny Mathis track... |
