Sony-BMG has finally released a full list of the CD’s with their “spyware” (Click Here To See All Titles)
Unfortunately one of the recordings that contains this malicious “software,” is Ms. Midler’s new CD (1 among 52) This applies to both the standard and the Barnes & Noble “exclusive” edition of the CD; the Dual Disc version is not on the list.
A friend of mine writes in:
Thanks to the firestorm over this mess (among other things, Microsoft has called the software “dangerous Malware,” the Dept. of Homeland Security has berated Sony for their actions, several class-action lawsuits have been initiated across the globe, and ”“ what I think finally forced the issue ”“ reports have started to come in concerning the appearance of malicious software that exploited the security breeches,) Song-BMG today announced that they were issuing a recall of all the albums affected by this software ”“ which was the reason they finally had to come clean with this list (previously, they had stated that only 20 albums had this protection.)
Sony has set up a link for you to check to see if you have any of these titles. You’ll need to check some item numbers and barcodes to make doubly sure: Click Here
They are recalling all outstanding CD’s but have set up a way for you to exchange your CD for one that is, for lack of a better word, not “infected” with their software….to exchange your CD…if you want to, please read their directions carefully:
I have to say this was a really sucky position to put someone in…and remember this is no reflection on the artists. If I were them I would be filing something…
