New Artist Bright Light Bright Light Album Cover Inspired By Bette Midler’s Outfit In Big Business

Ever since Rod Thomas first stepped away from his sleepy Welsh hometown and released his debut single in 2010, Bright Light Bright Light has won over fans and critics alike with his unique brand of shiny electropop. Since then, the independent singer/songwriter has toured with his friends Elton John and the Scissor Sisters, as well as starting his own dance party in New York called Romy & Michele’s Saturday Afternoon Tea Dance.

INTO spoke with Bright Light Bright Light about his new EP, Tough Love, the influence cinema has on his music and what it’s like to be labeled as a “gay artist.” Along the way, we also discussed Deadpool 3RuPaul’s Drag Race, and his undying adoration for actress Catherine O’Hara. Read More

Jacob Burns Film Center's Annual Gala Honors Award Winning Producer Dori Berinstein - Bette Midler Was Unable To Make It

Broadway’s presence and reach extends beyond the Big Apple, including just outside New York City with the Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC)- one of the most successful suburban film houses in the country- and their programs that promote the theatre to new audiences.

At this year’s annual JBFC Gala last week, JBFC celebrated and honored two imagination builders of Broadway, including legendary Broadway Producer Dori Berinstein with the Vision Award and JBFC Board Member Robert Goldberg with the first ever David Swope Leadership Award (bios below). A long-time supporter of JBFC, Dori is the curator and moderator of JBFC’s ongoing series Life on the Stage (in partnership with the Actors Fund) and now JBFC’s newest board member. Read More

In 1984, the song was covered by Bette Midler. Her version, which reached #71 on Billboard’s Hot 100, modified several lines of lyrics (for example, changing “Pretty, pretty, girls” to “my little sister is a pretty, pretty girl”). The track appeared on Bette Midler’s No Frills album.

A music video was made for this version that started out with Bette and Mick Jagger talking in her dressing room before she comes out and performs the song with him on stage. As the song ends someone throws a pie at Mick, and Bette laughs at it until she gets hit with a pie herself. The video ends with a picture of both of them covered in lyrics in a newspaper with the headline “Just desserts”. Read More
