BLB In Conjunction With NYRP Presents “Happy Birthday Bette – “Bette’s Gardens for the City”

Thanks for the Art Work Charles Little! From NYRP: We are doing a special project again this fall, but not specifically for Bette’s birthday. We’re really excited about it – it’s taking what we did last year one step further. As you remember, last year it was all about surprising Bette by bringing the beauty of our gardens out into the surrounding streets. And as thrilled as Bette was with the results, she was even more thrilled when she found out that it sparked a much greater chain reaction: when community members saw what we were doing in and around our gardens, they were so excited that they started asking our crew for help with other spaces where they saw potential. We ended up receiving so many requests that we decided to create a brand new program. We named it “Gardens for the City,” and we’re going to help communities transform open areas into gardens and productive green space by providing NYRP’s resources, from building and plant materials to expertise and labor. For this pilot season, we’ve chose these 5 projects that we hope to complete this fall: • A vacant lot in Bedford-Stuyvesant, completely overgrown and filled with garbage, stymieing the efforts of a neighborhood working so hard to revitalize itself. • A juvenile detention center for 12-17 year-old boys and girls in Brownsville striving to plant the spiritual seeds of hope and rehabilitation that will help these kids find a reason to rise above awful circumstances and make better choices for their lives. • A low-income housing development in the Bronx with the desire – but not the resources – to provide their residents with a safe and healthy backyard they can take pride in. • An elementary school in Brooklyn hoping to reclaim an incredible but run-down and unusable greenhouse and create a space for education in biology, botany and the environment. • A psychiatric center in Queens Village working to give patients and their families a space for tranquility amid beds of growing flowers and vegetables. As you can see, it’s a really wonderful program! Mister D: And this is where we, The BetteHeads, come in. NYRP has asked us to earmark our donations to this fabulous new program for Bette’s Birthday. And since NYRP is her pride and joy (besides me, of course!) I told them we would help, no probs. You can donate any amount starting with a minimum of $10.00. It’s also worthy to know that $35.00 will buy you an annual membership to NYRP. Otherwise, the amount you give is totally up to you. By using a credit card or paypal to make your donation make sure at the end of the process to write in the message box: Happy Birthday Bette – Bette’s Gardens for the City That way NYRP Knows to earmark the donation for Bette’s special project. To make the donation: Click Here I know that was written quickly, but I was running out of time. See you in 7 weeks at the max! The birthday fundraiser will run up to December 31, 2011, so you have plenty of time. But if I were you I’d get it done so I didn’t have to worry about it. Love, Mister D

Barry Manilow Endorses Ron Paul For President; Where’s Bette When You Need Her?

Back2Stonewall Barry Manilow Endorses Ron Paul For President – Paging Bette Midler! SEPTEMBER 16, 2011 WILL KOHLER Barry Manilow, who has never “officially” come out the closet is proving exactly how strange the world has becone and proves we should heed the warning of the 2012 Apocolypse as he steps forward to endorse Ron Paul for President. Grammy award-winning musician Barry Manilow told The Daily Caller that he agrees with “just about everything” 2012 Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul says, calling him a “solid” contender for the highest office in the land. “I like him. I like what he says, I do. I like what he says. I think he’s solid,” said Manilow, who confirmed to TheDC in an interview at the Capitol on Thursday that he contributed to Paul’s last campaign for president. “I agree with just about everything he says. What can I tell you?” Manilow added. Paul recently hired as his Iowa state campaign director one Michael Heath, formerly of the Maine Christian Civic League (which became the Maine Family Policy Association, an affiliate of Focus on the Family), formerly of the American Family Association and a notorious anti-gay activist. Hopefully Bette Midler will step forward smack the shit out of Manilow very soon. About the author Will Kohler is is a graduate of New York University and the owner and creator of Back2Stonewall.com. A longtime LGBT Equality activist, journalist, and LGBT historian, Will created Back2Stonewall as a venue to report and discuss LGBT issues, news and media without the typical “politically correct bullshit” and with just a dash of “snark” to make things interesting.

Good News, Bad News: Red Tape Keeps Mister D Home Til Sunday Morn

Well ain’t this typical! I announce something and then it backfires on me. Due to a bad intake the night before, when I got to the hospital Thursday morn I was told they couldn’t admit me. Now it’s been moved to Sunday morning…which just makes it more nerve-wracking for me. The bad news is that I will be gone for 7 weeks and as far as I know it’s computer-less. So I’m very disappointed, shocked, and sorry. I didn’t know I’d be gone that long. So do what you have to do. I’ll put up the birthday information and someone or anyone can be a cheerleader for it! So thanks in advance to anyone who picks that challenge up. Thanks to those who have posted well wishes to me on Bootleg Betty and Facebook. I really do appreciate it. It’s nice to know that people care. I’ve informed Ms Midler’s people and Mr.Vilanch of my sabbatical, so that’s taken care of. You all were next. I was embarrassed to have to write again. I won’t write another note about this unless another major change happens. Just know for now that Sunday morn will be my last post for quite awhile…. Thanks for being patient with me…. Don
