Oscar Hosts: Hugh Jackman or Bette Midler?
Who will be the next Oscar Host?

Mister D: The Academy has asked Bette Midler to host probably a thousand times by now, but she has always said “no.”  She has referred to it in the past as a “career suicide” gig.  But, as Bette has aged, she’s gotten much bolder, so maybe there’s a chance? I know…the Academy should offer to make a huge donation to NYRP! That’ll do it!

Who Should Host The Oscars?

The Kevin Hart Oscars hosting controversy is just the latest scandal to haunt the bedeviled Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences — and to knock ABC’s reputation farther into the basement. Read More

Production

The movie was originally written for Barbra Streisand (Midler’s role) and Goldie Hawn(Tomlin’s role). The plot is a coincidental and playful combination of three previously recognizable stories: Aesop’s The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse, Mark Twain’s The Prince and the Pauper, and Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors.

The production company could not get the rights to film at the actual Plaza Hotel in New York City, so it had the hotel recreated on sound stages. To recoup construction costs, Disney built a sitcom called The Nutt House around it. Jim Abrahams said he staged one of the boardroom scenes based on an experience he had when a large agency used many employees to get him to sign with them.

Comedy Album: Mud Will Be Flung Tonight- Bette Midler

The nominations for the 2019 Grammys Awards were announced on Friday morning, and this year’s contenders for best comedy album are — surprise! — all men.

Patton Oswalt (“Annihilation”), Dave Chappelle (“Equanimity & the Bird Revelation”), Jim Gaffigan (“Noble Ape”), Fred Armisen (“Standup for Drummers”) and Chris Rock (“Tamborine”) were all recognized.

Solely nominating men for this particular prize is nothing new for the Grammys. This year’s announcement marks the 60th year that a version of the comedy album award has existed. Read More

Video: Divine Madness – Bette Midler Interviewed On Nightmoves TV Show Australia By Jon Peters

Bette Midler promotes her new movie, Divine Madness in Australia. She’s interviewed by Jon Peters. I wonder if that’s the same Jon Peters Barbra Streisand used to date. Boy, was he a bad boy and a character.

Nightmoves was an Australian weekly late-night popular music series, hosted by Melbourne rock DJ Lee Simon. The program featured music videos from around the world, studio and location interviews with local and touring acts, and film reviews by noted Melbourne critic Ivan Hutchison. In later years the series presented a number of hour-long in-concert specials featuring leading Australasian acts such as Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons, and Split.Enz, and a number of these were recorded in stereo and simulcast in FM stereo on local rock stations in each capital ciry. The original series theme was Bob Seger’s eponymous song, but this was later replaced by an excerpt from Steely Dan’s “Parker’s Band”. The series was produced and broadcast from the studios of Channel 7 in Melbourne, and was shown on most Seven Network stations. Sadly, although the series.chronicled one of the most vibrant periods in Australian rock, much of the series was broadcast live, and few if any master tapes have survived. A DVD compilation of the series was issued in the 2000s, but this was largely sourced from surviving domestic off-air VHS recordings of the show.
