Though the rains continue, dams are safe, officials say
By Adam Harju and Cynthia Kaneshiro – The Garden Island
Anxiety levels continue to rise as the rain continues to fall, leaving many wondering if what occurred in Kilauea could be repeated in their region of the island.
State and local officials assure all residents that dams on Kaua’i have been inspected, and reinspected, and are being managed in accordance with the weather. “Basically, there is no immediate threat,” said Maj. Gen. Robert Lee, state adjutant general, yesterday.

Sting & Trudie: Mad About You, Literally
Yes, that was Bette Midler, who’s so very tiny, sneaking into the New Victory Theater last night with husband Martin von Hasselberg. (Their 19-year-old daughter is away at college, so they’re free to enjoy this type of evening.) They’d come to see rock star/actor Sting and his glamorous wife/actress/producer/activist Trudie Styler in a one off performance of “Twin Spirits.â€

Mister D: Not much happening. I guess I’ll apologize for Bette taking a break to spend with her family. I know…how selfish of her! She just doesn’t give enough does she???? 🙂
Oh, boo and hiss yourselves. It’s just a yoke…for those who are sense of humor deprived. Photo: Scavullo
I was watching Liza Minnelli on Larry King and of course she mentioned Bette, Cher, and Streisand. I didn’t have time to look up the transcript, so it took a Divine Dutchie (Queen Sara) from halfway around the world to bother to send that certain part. Here it is in all it’s glory:

Thanks for the scan Sara!!!
Mister D: In the Issue Date: 2006-04-01 of Billboard, Bette’s “Fever” rises into the Top 10 at Number 10! Now if they’d release the single on CD. You can order the vinyl single at Tower Records: Click Here
Dana writes in to remind us all that Michael Eisner’s “Conversations With Michael Eisner” starts on CNBC beginning March 28th. The reason this is of interest to you??? Bette is scheduled to be one of his guests on an upcoming show. Dana was lucky enough to see a little clip or ad of it during the Suze Orman show. Yes, like most of us, behind world peace of course, Dana dreams of being a millionairess! 🙂

Mister D: I just want to say how much I love you my dear. I hope you have a fabulous birthday! Knowing you, it’s party til you drop time or are you getting too old for that kind of stuff…I mean 24 or 25???? You’re ancient!!! LOL
I’m FIFTY!!!! So no whining about age!!!
Live fast and furious, but temper it with a little caution.
We’ve been writing each other for 5 years steady now. Here’s hoping that we finally meet within the next 5 years. It’ll happen! Thank you for being a wonderful friend and confidante. You’ve made my life so much brighter.

Mister D: Okay this post has to do with putting your money where your mouth is or talking the talk and walking the walk…and that’s what our dear BetteHead Jamie has been doing since I’ve known her…talking pre-historic online Bette days when life was sweet and oh so mellow!!! But I digress…BTW…Jamie does not look pre-historic, she just makes others feel that way because of her boundless energy, just like someone else we know.
Anyhoo, I know, I know…get to the point Mister D!. WELL, NYRP has just put up on their site that they are one of the 150 (nation wide) recipients of The National Garden Assoc. Award. It just so happens that Philly’s Journey Home has also been chosen to receive that SAME award!!

Mister D: Leslie writes in to say that the video highlights are finally up on the Parkinson page. The transcripts are there, too, but Nigel has them for us already in the post below.
Love, Mister D
Mister D: Nigel was kind enough to send this transcript in from the Parkinson Show. These UK interviewers (including reporters) seem to ask much more interesting questions (and therefore better interviews) of Bette than their US counterparts. Don’t know why that is, but our entertainment journalists should take notice and learn a thing or two….anyway here’s Nigel, then the transcript:
They cut a few bits from the recorded show – mainly the joke and that fact that Bette said she wanted to sit home watch TV and get fat like everyone else!
Mister D: I just really want to thank Colette for sending in this fabulous first person account about seeing Bette on the Parkinson show. It’s a good read and makes you feel you were right there in the audience with her. Thanks Colette!:
Photo:Thanks for the scan, Sara, Queen of the Divine Dutchies!
Let me tell you of the most fantastic, over-whelming, amazing, and ecstatic day that I had on Thursday. I started my day by getting up, getting ready and leaving the house to get the bus to the train station to catch an early train to London.
