Garry Marshall vows, if you see this film, you’ll understand women better
BY KATHERINE BRODSKY
April 26, 2005
Released back in 1988, the complicated friendship between opposites C.C. Bloom and Hillary Whitney resonated with audiences and on April 26, 2005, Buena Vista will release the much-awaited special edition DVD of Beaches. The DVD is filled with deleted scenes, a blooper reel from the film’s wrap party, a “Wind Beneath My Wings” music video, screen tests and a lively audio commentary with director Garry Marshall (Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries, Raising Helen).
The story of two lonely young girls who met on a beach and grew up together, going through both good times and tragic times, bickering on the way is a tearjerker, to be sure. But, hey, isn’t life filled with tears (not to mention, bickering)? But it’s also filled with some laughs and a musical number or two if we’re lucky. Under the helm of director Garry Marshall and the dazzling voice of Bette Midler, Beaches provides both. And now, the release of the DVD provides an excuse for those who have already seen the film, to watch it again. And those who haven’t seen it get a chance to discover some beautiful performances by Bette Midler, Barbara Hershey, John Heard and the rest of the gang, including one big dog.

Alana Stewart rocks a leopard print coat as she steps out with Bette Midler for lunch in Beverly Hills
By ROSS MCDONAGH
18 January 2019
Bette Midler and Alana Stewart stepped out for lunch together in Beverly Hills on Thursday.
The actresses, both 73, enjoyed a bite to eat at the upmarket E Baldi.
Alana, who is her companion’s senior by seven months, looked gorgeous in knee-high black boots and a sexy figure-hugging black dress, cinched at the waist, flashing a little leg via side split.
She matched it with a luxurious leopard print fur coat, likely faux.
Bette meanwhile matched her boots, pairing hers with a black jumpsuit.
She finished her ensemble in a cosy thick brown long corduroy coat, and a stylish grey scarf.

Two Ocean’s 9 Actresses Sarah Paulson Wants For A Sequel
BY SARAH EL-MAHMOUD
January 15, 2019
Last summer, we were introduced to Debbie Ocean and her newly-formed girl gang of clever criminals in Ocean’s 8, and it showed quite a bit of promise as the beginning of a lady-led heist franchise. While a sequel hasn’t been announced, Sarah Paulson has made it clear she’s interested in Ocean’s 9. Here’s who she would like to join the already star-studded cast:
I would like to add Bette Midler to the cast. I think she’d be great, or Emma Thompson. Can’t go wrong with either of them. Yeah, let’s get them both.
HELLO, DOLLY! UK Run Sounding Unlikely
by BWW News Desk
Jan. 17, 2019
Mister D: I knew about this about 3 weeks ago. I visited a theater forum in the UK and saw all this commotion about Bette Midler coming to the UK to play “Hello Dolly” for the Yukkers!!! So I contacted Divine Central and was told it was very unlikely. So I went back to the forum the other day saying not to get their hopes up. But I never posted it here. I’ve just been really under the weather these last few months. That’s why my posting has been so erratic. I have been almost bedridden for 6 months. And now I’m just coming out of the dark into the light.
While I’m posting, I might as well tell you not to expect the official Bette Midler site to reopen. They just didn’t feel like it was worth it to keep it running. They said the lack of traffic didn’t warrant it. I had a lot of ideas to keep it running, but I don’t think they want to get that involved.
