Bette Midler Sings the Peggy Lee Songbook
The Divine One continues her lucrative exploration of the great female artists of the past century on this trim collection of hot jazz and pop standards. Following in the footsteps of her Rosemary Clooney collection, Midler dives headfirst into these 10 tunes, opening with perennial favorite “Fever,†and then working her way through nine more classic ditties.
Midler walks a fine line throughout the collection, as she pays homage to one of the great singers of the 20th Century, while also working to make the songs her own.

Bawdy ‘Best Bette’
(Published: January 26, 2006)
The ribald music and comedy of Bette Midler will be on display in Laguna Beach next weekend — even if the Divine Miss M herself, a onetime Laguna resident, won’t be.
Laguna’s No Square Theater is kicking off its 2006 season next weekend with a tribute to Midler entitled “Best Bette: The Bette Midler Songbook,” at the Artists Theater of Laguna Beach High School.
“I don’t know another singer who has put her stamp on such a wide range of material,” says No Square board member Chris Quilter.

First, I want to thank everybody who sent me Christmas Cards and E-Cards….what a surprise!!! I hope to write you all back. You didn’t have to do that, but it was very surprising and cool.
Anyway, I have to take leave, go away, bow out…whatever… for an extended amount of time and am not quite sure when I will return. I know I’ll be back, but I just don’t know when. So I hope everyone starts the New Year off right by being safe, keeping your health in tip top shape, and above all…keeping yourself happy.
Danny from The Uptown Men’s Party in New York writes in that the Junior Vasquez remix of “Fever” is rated #10 on the DJ Top 10 chart in Next Magazine (A gay magazine in NYC).
However, so far, he has not been able to find a copy. If anyone happens to run across a copy or a commercial copy, please drop a line.

From Sara, The Divine Dutchie: Here’s a short wrap up of Bette’s position in the end of year charts. In Holland she does better than in Belgium, but it has always been that way.
Radio Donna Top 2005 (Belgian Radio Channel)883 – The Rose (2004 – 1174) 1143 – Beast of Burden (2004 – 629)
Radio 2 Top 2000 (Dutch Radio Channel)
You guys helped Bette, check it out:32 – The Rose (2004 – 34) 571 – Beast of Burden (2004 – 547) 626 – Wind beneath my wings (2004 – NO ENTRY!) 721 – From a distance (2004 – 756)
There is one other main Dutch hitlist, Radio Veronica’s Top 1000 best songs ever. I remember reading in the paper that Beast of Burden was on number 300, but they took the list offline, so I have no way of checking it.
