Mister D: Still in full day classes for Songposium…last day!!! It has been incredible…most of my classes have dealt with opening up the creative side of the brain, song structure, the basic building blocks, message songs, and voice and vocal techniques. Not sure if I’ll ever write a song, but I’ll be singing others’ better! 🙂
Photo: Thanks for the pic Nicola!
Beth Nielson Chapman was one of my teachers. She is quite inspirational and her “technique” is very, very open…almost goes against the grain from what all the other teacher’s teach. I do believe her method, if you can call it that, made more sense to me probably because she leans to the extreme…it’s hard to explain. I was able to exchange pleasantries from Bette and staff to Ms. Chapman and vice versa. Ms. Chapman had heard of BLB which was cool…I think it was because I promoted 2 of her albums and had to do with trackbacks…I’m not sure. She is quite humorous and so easy-going.

Soloway on Poehler: A Broadsheet fantasy interview
It’s one of life’s small sadnesses that Bust magazine has a relatively limited online presence. Today it’s especially sad, because it means we can’t send you directly to read the interview it has published this month with two of my very favorite writers/performers/funny people, Amy Poehler and Jill Soloway.
You probably already know Poehler as a “Saturday Night Live” cast member and, until recently, “Weekend Update” co-host with the object of Broadsheet’s obsessive love, Tina Fey. I was first turned on to Soloway, a former “Six Feet Under” writer, by Salon’s Heather Havrilesky, who kvelled so persuasively about Soloway’s book “Tiny Ladies in Shiny Pants” that I ran right out and bought it. You should too. It’s fantastic.

A lot of you have been asking…uh, 2 people, to be precise….how my first gig went. I had planned to write quite a bit about it, but I’m just lazy and too much is happening all at once, so this will be rather brief.
Because of my performance, which for a debut, was killer, I guess, I’ve gotten other requests to play out. I’m even doing a small, but fabulous radio show – The Madelyn J. McCray Show – Broadcast From The Church Street Cafe. It’s primarily a talk show, so I will be interviewed and be the first musical guest ever!

Cinemax and Bette Inspire Dancers as Models
The presentation for Grey Ant’s spring/summer 2007 collection at the Altman Building showcased more than just the Grant Krajescki-designed clothes. Inspired by the back cover of the 1976 Bette Midler album Songs for the New Depression and the erotic film—and cable channel staple—Emmanuelle, Krajescki brought in the Los Angeles-based Hysterica Dance Company to perform a specially choreographed routine that comprised the bulk of the show. Wearing Grey Ant attire, eight dancers writhed, pirouetted, and gyrated to music by electronic artists Work and Aphex Twin. Ojala Ltd. provided show production and People’s Revolution handled front of house production.
