World Renowned Designers and Celebrities Showcase Custom-Made Dress Forms to Be Auctioned Off at the King of Prussia Mall
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sept. 8, 2006–Just as New York City’s Fashion Week comes to a close, there will be another fashion celebration just outside of Philadelphia that includes national and international designers, celebrity contributions and fine food and cocktails – and all for a good cause – the ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter.
On September 17, greater Philadelphia will gather to participate in the first “Couture for a Cure” gala and auction at the King of Prussia Mall, the region’s premier shopping destination, where guests will bid on one-of-a-kind dress forms created by such designers as Nicole Miller, Hermes, Lilly Pulitzer, Heatherette, Diane Von Furstenberg, Mothers Work, Joan Calabrese, Paola Andrea, Denise Fike, Kay Unger, Jessica McClintock and more.
Additionally, celebrities, such as Regis Philbin and Bette Midler, have designed their own dress forms to be auctioned at the event. Celebrities, such as Sean Combs, Jon Bon Jovi, James Woods and Ming-Na, have participated by contributing separate items for auction that evening in addition to many other exciting items offered by national and local businesses.
The King of Prussia Mall has partnered with Neiman Marcus and Drexel University’s College of Media Arts and Design. At least twelve of Drexel’s top fashion students will be designing a dress form for the auction. One such student, Megan Stein, received last year’s Fashion Grand Prize in Paris at the 23rd edition of the International Competition for Young Fashion Designers.
“We are thrilled to be hosting ‘Couture for a Cure’ and are proud to be affiliated with the ALS Association, Neiman Marcus and Drexel University,” said Bob Hart, General Manager for the King of Prussia Mall. “In working together, we have all been successful in bringing local, national and international fashion to our region to benefit this all-important cause.”
All proceeds from “Couture for a Cure” will benefit the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association, which seeks a cure while caring for patients currently battling for ALS. Also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS is a progressive neuromuscular disease that weakens and eventually destroys motor neurons needed to accomplish the most basic movements.
