I’m going to Vegas with a couple of friends next week to see Bette’s show, of course, but I was wondering from those of you who have gone what you did to have fun that you can tell about? 🙂 Just trying to get ideas firsthand from the BetteHeads! Who else would I ask? Thanks in advance!
Love, Mister D
I’m writing this as I sit in the las Vegas airport waiting to go home. Being 16 kinda kept me from doing alot of things, but my stepmom and I went to the MGM grand and saw the lions, and then we did the csi expierence where we solved a case. But I think that the most fun I had (besides bette’s show ofcourse) was walking fromy hotel theonte Carlo to caesars palace, counting the bette cabs and Bette buses, and seeing her advertisements everywhere! I counted 61 Bette cabs, 2 Bette buses and 4 bette billboards. ( oh and 1 Bette drag queen!) after the show I met Carol Hatchett foemer harlette now salad girl! She was so nice! Have a divine time Mr. D I know I did!
Hey honey!
I don’t know how interested you would be but every time I get to Vegas, I love to head out to the Nat’l Parks to hike. Places like Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire state park – beautiful! It is less than an hour’s drive north of Vegas but, SO worth the trip. You can hike all day and see the most beautiful colors and hardly believe that “sin city” is so close.
To eat, there is a great Italian restaurant at the Mirage. We ate there after seeing Danny Ganns (R.I.P) and the food was amazing. Also at the Mirage is where you can see the white tigers, lions and get real close to dolphins, I spent 2 hrs there just watching these amazing creatures…too bad we (society) don’t value them as much as we should!
I’ve always wanted to check out Liberace’s (s/p?) museum but haven’t gotten there yet.
Have a safe trip and blow a big kiss to Miss M for me!

If you like neon, check out the Neon Boneyard – a museum dedicated to the history and preservation of LV’s neon signs. There is a tour, but you have to make arrangements in advance at http://www.neonmuseum.org/
Thanks, so far, for your suggestions….Marissa, I know I will automatically be doing stuff like that in my head….just comes naturally….LOL…Thanks Jamie and Blaine…
I enjoyed seeing the wild animals at the Mirage (like Philly’s Miss M). Since Siegfried & Roy are not entertaining, their animals are kept at the Mirage for all to see. There’s also a very life-like Bette at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum (I think it’s near the Venetian), along with Michael Jackson, Prince, and a ton of other celebrities. Also, I enjoy Cirque du Soleil (it hans’t “Sunque du So-low” for me yet), so I’m going to try to take in Zumanity if I can. Haven’t seen that one yet, and I understand it’s the most “adult” of the shows.
Hope to see you there!
Ron
Thank you Ron
Go to the shark reef at Mandalay Bay. And grab a sandwich at Carnigie Deli at the Mirage. Do not miss Old Vegas at freemeont street, go at dark to see the music shows on the overhead right on the strip, the casinos are a trip and you can even play some machines that actually take coins LOL. Of course, if time allows hit up the Grand canyon, tons of affordable bus trips.
Oh yeah the Titanic exihibit at the Luxor…I thought it was pricey…but it was reallytastefully done and quite awe inspiring…
Thanks Mary!!!
oh you also have to check out the fountain show at the bellagio, right next to caesar’s its really cool, oh and it’s in the 40s in vegas so bring a jacket.
Thank you Marissa!! I needed that info…..the weather
Zumanity!!!!
The Freemont Streep Experience, as the name says, it’s a light show on Freemont Street and not on The Strip.
The most inspiring and Miss M’s favorite Cirque show is “O”. It’s the one in, on the over water.
“Zumanity” is not for all. Only the ones who are OK with most sexual combinations and visuals. If you are too religious, it’s not for you. It’s on New York New York.
Take in a baloon flight and dinner on a flowting table over the Strip.
If you like thrills, try The Stratosphere rides on the top of the tower, which is much higher than the Paris Hotel tower.
Taste a twinky at Downtown Las Vegas at Mermaids. Kathy Griffin took The Divine One there and she ate a deep-fried twinky and a deep-fried oreo.
Best fancy buffet: Wynn Las Vegas.
Best regular priced buffet: Luxor Hotel and Casino.
Pricy Restaurant with best Vegas view: Top of the World at Stratosphere Hotel and Casino.
I went to Vegas in November. I had a Smug Martha Ticket, yes I got to meet Bette, what an experience I had. I had saved for 4 years so I went the whole hog. She was so nice we spent about 10mins one on one, I gave her book about Australia which she loved and a couple of other things. It seemed like she wanted to chat longer but her people were pretty strict on keeping things moving. The staff at Caesars treated me like a queen I had never been a VIP before I was really looked after. It was a dream come true for me since i was 12 and I am 44 now, so the wait was just a few years.LOL I have great memories.
The one thing I wanted to do more of was shop but I couldn’t bring anymore weight home on the plane, the shopping is fantastic, definitely make time for shopping.
Thanks for a great web site
Love Sharon x x
Thanks Marcos….good stuff in there….
Thanks Sharon….glad your dream came true and boy do I like shopping, too…..
Go for an In-n-Out Burger. The easiest location from the strip is across the Interstate behind New York, New York. The perfect fast food burger and fries.
Someone already mentioned the fountains at the Bellagio. I can and have watched them for hours.
Shop till you drop, especially at the Forum Shops (Caesars) or Fashion Square Mall (across from Wynn).
If you have time, catch a Cirque show (KA is amazingly huge, Love is amazingly fun, O is amazingly wet…..). You might catch a discount ticket at the Fashion Square Mall ticket outlet.
In-n-Out has the best fast food burger and Bob Flay’s restaraunt (Mesa Grill) at Caesars has a great high end burger.
And when all else fails – people watching is truly incredible on the Las Vegas strip.
Have a great trip and tell Bette “Hi!”…..
Thank you Brian….will definitely tell Bette “hello”
This trip coming up here mighty soon will be my 9th trip to Vegas since 2005. One “must see” thing is the Bellagio conservatory! I was there in Dec and it was decorated for Christmas. Another time, the end of Feb, it was decorated for the Chinese New Year. Ive seen it in the fall and in the summer..It’s spectacular! And of course the dancing fountains which has been mentioned already is a must see!
Madame Tussauds is a fun place to spend a couple of hours. For free: There’s a little opera performance at the Grand Canal Shoppes which is nice, there’s a cute 3D show at the M&M store, the lions at the MGM which someone already mentioned, walking around the Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo is nice, you can forget for a little while that the hustle and bustle of the strip is out there close by! Siegfrid and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage is wonderful to see. Taking a gondola ride at the Venetian is relaxing. In Dec, I saw Donny and Marie’s show at the Flamingo. It was sooo good! I’ve seen Ka (didn’t like it much) and Love (it was great!). Legends in Concert is fun to see and not that expensive. Freemont Street Experience was enjoyable BUT we were there for the last show of the night and then riding the bus back down the strip was a nightmare!! If you go see that, go earlier and get out of there before the last showing! It’s just fun to walk around the different hotels on the strip to see what’s inside! The first time I was in Vegas, my daughter and I decided to walk (yes, walk) to the Rio. We were at Caesar’s Palace and it didn’t look that far…well it was!!! It took us 45 min and it was in May so it was quite hot outside!! There is the Masquerade Show in the Sky to see at the Rio but you can catch a free shuttle there from Bally’s, Harrah’s and I think I read from Caesar’s Palace. Is this your first time going to Vegas? You’ll have alot of fun! There’s lots to do! Don’t know if you’ll read this before you go since I think you said you were leaving Friday morning but I didn’t see this until tonight!
Thanks Kathy!!!
One can even take part on The Masquerade Show in the Sky at Rio Las Vegas if you pay a fee! If you don’t want to be on a float, just watch the spectacle for free.
