Mister D:Divine Grace, my favorite bitch (and probably yours too) has put together her first Bette video edit of some of Bette’s bitchier moments to the tune of Elton John’s “The Bitch Is Back.” Just sit back and enjoy!
Gracie…it’s my pleasure. You never cease to amaze me and I am thrilled any time I can promote you. I love you as a person, think you’re extremely talented as a writer, and I can’t wait to see what else you come up with in the future. You brighten my days and that’s saying something…. Love, Don
It means a lot to me that you posted this, Mister D.!
When I was in high school and college for the performing arts back in the 1900’s (and before being “clockable” as a queer was okay) I was told that my mannerisms were “too Bette Midler-esque”, and I never understood why that was supposed to be a negative criticism. I mean, if I had been told that my performance reminded an instructor of Meryl Streep, I assume I would also be expected to bow and issue gratitude. I saw it as a compliment. I wasn’t striving to imitate her at the time, but by sixteen I had already watched so much of her material ON LOOP that it just sank in permanently.
While putting this piece together, I realized that these moments, the wide-eyed surprises, the double-takes, the way she juts her lower jaw forward while she clenches her jaw in anger, are very much a part of who I am, whether I attempt it or not. Forever. I realized that these scenes specifically are basically the conception of The Divine Grace.
I love her schmaltz as much as the rest of the world, but I guess these are the moments that she always shines most in my eyes so far.
I’m excited to see what becomes of her in her older years as a film actress. I truly believe she’ll be box office gold again in one fashion or another, but I’d love to see her in more comedy and a solid dramatic lead again.
Thanks again for the notice. I hope you ALL enjoy it.
So cool! Love it!!!
