20 Years Ago, Veteran Musicians Rake In Millions

Madonna has proved she is still the Queen of Pop after being crowned the best tour act of 2004.

The singer pulled in a massive $125-million (about R750-million) on her Re-Invention tour – the biggest live tour profit of the year – after selling out 55 of her 56 performances.

According to Billboard Magazine, the elaborate concerts, which featured Madonna pretending to be electrocuted in an electric chair, averaged $2,23-million at the box office each night.

Eighties icon Prince scooped second place after his Musicology tour grossed $90,2-million. The eccentric star admitted the shows were his best of the decade after pulling in the greatest amount of fans – almost 1,5 million.

Country star Shania Twain was third, playing to almost 950 000 fans and grossing $62,5-million, followed by Simon & Garfunkel ($59-million), Metallica ($53,8-million), Bette Midler ($53,3-million), Sting ($52,4-million), Kenny Chesney ($49,3-million), David Bowie ($46 million) and Toby Keith ($44,3-million).

However, Madonna could owe much of her concert success to the Kabbalah leader she reportedly asked to bless the stage before every concert and the 50 free tickets she handed out to Kabbalah centres across America for each performance.

A source told America’s MSNBC: “He goes out there and chants and does his routine. He blesses them all.”

  1. This is a very interesting thing, regarding a song of Bette’s. I was listening to “From a Distance,” and I thought, Holy Toledo, this is a perfect song relating to how things are, especially in the US. I told my Yoga Instructor about it, and she listened, and said that “It made her cry.” Another person in class, heard Emily & I talking, and now she is going to listen.
Seriously, listen to it, and I think that you will agree. Let me know what you think.

  2. Don, I would like you to listen to “From a Distance” again. I was listening to it about 2-3 wks ago. It is the perfect song for what is going on in the US, and other countries. I told my Yoga teacher about it, she listened, and told me that it made her cry. Another lady, in our class heard us talking, and is also going to listen. Listen again, and tell me what you think>
