Video: Bette Midler & Sheryl Lee Ralph Sing I Can See Clearly Now

Yes, Bette Midler and Sheryl Lee Ralph perform a joyful duet of the classic reggae hit “I Can See Clearly Now” (originally written and recorded by Johnny Nash in 1972) in the 2024 comedy film The Fabulous Four. Their version serves as the upbeat end-credits song, featuring singing and a choreographed dance number with the whole cast, including Susan Sarandon and Megan Mullally. Alana Da Fonseca produces it and captures the movie’s themes of friendship, renewal, and second chances.

The song wasn’t part of the original script—it was born from an impromptu moment during filming in Savannah, Georgia. While having brunch with director Jocelyn Moorhouse and producer Richard Barton Lewis, Midler and Ralph were chatting about sunshine, joy, and the film’s Key West setting. Ralph spontaneously started singing the song, and Midler harmonized (adding the third above her melody). The producer jumped up and declared it the perfect end-credits tune. As Midler later recalled, both women exchanged a look of “What have we done?” since it meant adding extra shooting days to the six-week production. Ralph called it a magical, inspired accident that turned into “singing and dancing in a movie.”The number has drawn comparisons to the feel-good finale of Mamma Mia! (2008), with Ralph thrilled at the chance to perform with Midler. Behind the scenes, filming the dance was chaotic—”like herding cats,” per Ralph—due to the multiple takes needed for the ensemble choreography.
