The Sisters Are Reuniting…For Hulaween!
The original Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus are reuniting.
Yes, that’s right: Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy are all joining forces again, but it’s not for a Hocus Pocus sequel (sadly). Rather, the three legends will team up for Midler’s annual Hulaween costume gala, benefiting the New York Restoration Project (NYRP). The event is virtual this year and will be called “In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover” to commemorate just how exciting this reunion is.
No word yet on what Parker, Midler, and Najimy will do during their reunion. Maybe a cover of “I Put a Spell on You?” A table read of the Hocus Pocus script?
Regardless, maybe this event will inspire the three legends to actually get together for a sequel. It’s something all three have expressed interest in doing, but for some reason the cards haven’t fallen into place. A Hocus Pocus sequel is in the works at Disney+, but the original stars aren’t attached to it. See the video on YouTube.
“Oh, my goodness me. Oh, I hope they get to me before I’m a corpse,” Midler told Entertainment Tonight last year about doing a sequel. “We wanna fly again. I hope Disney+ is a big success and I hope we get to do it, because [Winifred] is of course one of my favorite characters…. I can’t wait to read the script. We’re gonna see what happens.”
“I heard about it online the same time as [everyone else]. But here’s the honest answer: Sarah and Bette and I all have a million projects and things that we’re into, so I don’t know if they’re gonna offer us [roles]. I don’t know if the worlds are going to collide so that we could all three do it at the same time,” Najimy also told ET last year. “But I’m happy that it’s happening, because the fans are really rabid and they really want it. [And] if we’re not all available to star in it, I think it would be so great to do a cameo. I think that’d be really fun.”
This year’s Hulaween gala will certainly be fun too. It happens on October 30. Streaming tickets are on sale now and cost $10. Fans can shop online in advance for limited-edition merchandise and attend virtual classes at the Sanderson Sisters Charm School.
A nice event to announce their participation in the sequel?? Either way: I love the fact that Bette has been part of some exciting acting-projects; She was sensational in “The Politician”, just terriffic in “Coastal Elites” and she is said to be great as Bella Abzug in “The Glorias”. Fingers crossed “Family Jewels” is gonna survive Corona…
I have to admit, this is a pretty clever concept. Now, for just $10 each, we can all be a part of Hulaween, if just for an hour.
Also, the catalog of gifts look to good to be true. I think I’ll be ordering a few of the items–one has already sold out. The T-shirt and the tea are the two standouts for me, at the moment. If Bette, Sarah and Kathy are going to be in the sequel, this would be the event to announce it, but the tease continues. So sorry you’re getting inundated with the “will they or won’t they/are they or aren’t they” on a daily basis. Hopes dashed, or, will they be realized? If anyone knows (or will know) the answer to that question, Mister D, you will. Not that there’s any pressure or anything. lol. Love the logo/picture for Hulaween 2020, by the way. I want that as a poster!
I just think this whole thing is a class act. Pandemic or not, if this turns out to be the success that I think it will be, I wouldn’t be surprised if the format is repeated again next year.
