Melissa Manchester Joins Broadway Cast Of Cagney The Musical

Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress Melissa Manchester will join the cast of “Cagney The Musical,” produced in association with Riki Kane Larimer, as part of the 2026 Summer Mainstage Season at Bay Street Theater.
With a career spanning music, film and stage, Manchester is recognized as one of the defining voices of her generation. She is a recipient of the Elliot Norton Award from the Boston Theater Critics Association for her performance in the national tour of “Funny Girl.” As a performer and songwriter, her work has been recorded by artists including Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler and Roberta Flack.
Her addition to “Cagney The Musical” brings a level of authenticity and artistic depth to the production, connecting the story to the broader musical landscape that defined the entertainment industry during the lifetime of James Cagney.

Now, Bay Street audiences will have the opportunity to experience that artistry live as Manchester joins the company of “Cagney The Musical” in an intimate theatrical setting.
The play traces the life and career of James Cagney, one of Hollywood’s most iconic performers. Known for his explosive screen presence, precision dancing and unmistakable charisma, Cagney rose from the streets of New York to become a defining figure of American film. Featuring music and lyrics by Robert Creighton and Christopher McGovern, and a book by Peter Colley, the production blends tap dance, storytelling and a dynamic score to capture the spirit of an artist who helped shape modern entertainment.
