Pancho’s Garden is a community garden on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, officially known as the Francisco “Pancho” Ramos Community Garden. It’s located at 703 East 9th Street, New York, NY 10009, between Avenue C and 9th/10th Streets.

What it is
Pancho’s Garden is a half?acre community-created green space that began in the late 1970s, when local residents reclaimed an abandoned, trash-filled lot and transformed it into a public garden. Today it features:

Flowerbeds and vegetable plots

Meandering walking paths

A koi and turtle pond

A fig arbor

Quiet nooks for reading, chatting, or relaxing

Community role
The garden hosts music, art, and gardening workshops, along with seasonal community events. It’s part of the cultural and ecological fabric of the East Village.

Hours
Open April–October, Saturdays and Sundays, 12–6 PM, plus whenever members have the gate open.
