Delta Dawn

Mister D: Seems like everyone (Helen Reddy and Tanya Tucker) saw Bette on Johnny singing Delta Dawn and then they went off and recorded it before her and had a hit…that sucks….same goes for the Carpenters and “Superstar”…they loved Bette’s version on Johnny, too…:-(

Tucker started her run of hits in 1972. When she was 13, Sherrill wanted her to make a recording debut with “The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA” (a hit for Donna Fargo), but Tucker passed. Instead she chose the gritty story-song “Delta Dawn” (which she heard Bette Midlerdo on television).
