For a while now, Shimabukuro has experienced musical collaboration most musicians only dream of, both playing live and recording with some of music’s biggest artists. His awareness was markedly increased among a new audience years back when he played for Bette Midler and then later on opening for several tours with Jimmy Buffett.

Up next is an album of duets he did with what is a truly stunning collection of revered artists including Bette Midler (yes they did “The Rose”), Willie Nelson, Michael McDonald, Lyle Lovett, Vince Gill, Jon Anderson (who sang “A Day In The Life”) and Warren Haynes, with whom about their collaboration Jake said, “We ended up with a 14 minute song, and people were wondering if we should cut it down. And we were like, ‘No we’ve got to keep it all in!!’ “ (Washington Life, SEPTEMBER 16, 2019)
